Okay... so one of my best friends has little boy who is 3 months old and she just recently went back to work. She's a single mom and works Sunday/Monday/Tuesday every other Saturday 7am-7pm as a dispatcher for 9-1-1. She's only been back for 2 weeks and her daycare (it's home-based) called her today and said that she is closing her doors; that she'll watch him this weekend but that's it. So my friend calls me in tears wondering what to do b/c she's a single mom; just started back to work; has NO money to pay another daycare deposit; isn't receiveing child support yet;etc... you get the picture. I told her to start by reading over her contract with the current daycare person and make sure that the lady isn't in violation of that contract. But after that she needs to find someone/someplace new. Anyone know of anyone or a place that offers long hours and weekends without costing a ton of money? Or maybe someone who will work on the money issue given the current circumstances. Please let me know! Thank you!

Yeah, have her read over her contract. She may be entitled to getting her deposit back. When's the childsupport supposed to be starting??
I *think* Danielle was starting some kind of care service, right? That may be an option??

Where is your friend located? I may be able to help depending on various factors, until she finds something more permanent.

I thought places like the 4C's had financial aid or something? I didn't even know daycare places had deposits now!

Anna,

I feel so bad for your friend. I know personally what its like to be a single mother looking for child care.

Here are two possible options for her:

SonomaWORKS
2550 Paulin Drive, Santa Rosa, CA
(707) 565-2715

Provides temporary assistance to needy families through cash assistance, subsidized child care, job search assistance, and other support services. Apply for services at 2550 Paulin Drive, Santa Rosa.

And here is 4 C's site
http://www.sonoma4cs.org/
-------------------

I could also possibly help out for a bit but I realize my situation is less than ideal being that I am not sure when I will go into labor.

She makes too much money to qualify for most assistance programs so another big issue.... but I'll pass the info on! Thanks! :)

4 C's also has a way you can even just find out who has openings, they can't "reccomend" a place but they do have a list of places with openings and a little bio on each which might be of help :) I imagine w/e care is hard to come by in general unfortunately.

My sister is starting a day-care and has TONS of experience. I PM'd you with her email address.

thanks for all the info ladies! I'm passing it all on to my friend! She's very grateful! I've been trying to get her to join the site... now maybe she will. When I started giving her some of the info she was like "how'd you find that?" I said I just posted it to my Mom's Group and everyone shared what they knew! She was very impressed! :D

4c's took my info and insisted that they don't give names over the phone. I had to either come in or have it mailed. A friend sent me to www.sonomacountychildcareassociation.com Click on the parent section and go to referrals. She can select her area and it even says who has openings. I found it very helpful. That would be cool if it worked out with Tasha's sister too!
