View Full Version : Trader Joes tcolera 05-25-2008, 07:58 PM I have been shopping at Trader Joes lately, but never really went there before. I think I just assumed they would be more expensive. They have great prices and I have noticed such a difference in my body from how I feel to my my weight since I have started going. :thumb Do you have a favorite item from Trader Joes we should try?? lornabrown 05-25-2008, 08:17 PM TJ's is great! There is another thread about this somewhere. My favs are: the sundried tomato pesto. I use it in paninis, on pasta, for bruschetta or just dip. Cinnamon raison bread. I always keep a loaf of this in the freezer. They also have a cranberry walnut bread in the fresh baked bread section. I use this bread for french toast. If we don't eat all of it fresh then I put slices in the freezer for later. So many other great things. The bag dry pasta is always priced cheap and ditto with bag lettuce. tcolera 05-25-2008, 08:19 PM Thanks Lorna. YUM! I also second the cinnamon bread. They have a lot of healthy snacks/chips that are reasonably priced, and a good selection of cereals. Dh likes their Orange Chicken, and I like the Tempura Vegetables. They have a lot of good stuff in their freezer section actually. Pomegranate daiquiris (http://www.oprah.com/foodhome/food/recipes/200612/food_200612_daiq.jhtml) are calling my name. Morgan also loves the orange chicken and the frozen pizzas are must have basics. Oh and they have precooked frozen jasmine rice. All you do is pop the pouch into the freezer for 30 seconds. As much as I love TJ's I can't seem to get everything I need there so I shop there everyother week. I can't *just* shop there...because they don't seem to have all the things we shop for in our house. dh loves the gnocchi too. the mac n cheese is good I like the costco orange chicken better than the tj's personally... the guacamole is good too :) that's all i can think of now.... Our weekend indulgence is their croissants (frozen section) OMG they are amazing. We also keep the flat bread pizza on hand as well as the mac n cheese. You mean the frozen amc and cheese?? Thta is so good and my kids love it. I have 3 boxes in the freezer just to add to a meal of necessary. I usually buy a couple of their low calorie salads for lunch on work days too. Other staples I buy frequently from there because they are good - or cheaper than Safeway: Romaine Hearts Turkey bacon (the less fat is good for little E's reflux) Luna bars Flax seed tortilla chips Fat free cottage cheese Romaine tomatoes Chicken cacciatore sauce-- DH *LOVES* this and he is picky I also like the jasmine rice that comes in the bags that you microwave for 3 mins. The rice is super good and it cooks so fast. Milk - fat free for us and organic whole for Little Eman (OMG SO good if you like milk!) I like their jams too. wyattsmama 05-25-2008, 11:04 PM hmmm. we buy all the fruits and veggies we can there i get their pizza dough and sauce and make my own stuff the gnocchi :) but the red sauce kind their stir fry frozen veggies nick loves their tempura that's all i can think of off the top of my head... Oooh and the triple ginger snaps. For P man I buy the Hidden Treasures and whole-milk yogurt. Lorah 05-26-2008, 10:02 AM We get most of our food from TJ's. We love it! One thing I really like about them is that if you buy something and its bad, or if you try it and don't like it you can return it and get a refund or exchange, whichever you prefer. WE do that ALL the time! The cereals are great! None of them have BHT in them nor in their packaging like all the General Mills and other name brands in the stores...the prices on most of the cereal is really cheap! For what it is anyway.... I knwo you can get other cereal really cheap at like Food Max and Grocery Outlet though too... but I can't eat most of those with the BHT in it. :( Oh well.... The White Cheddar Shells Mac and Cheese in the grocery Asile is really good! Their BBQ sauce is GREAT!!!! Cheeses are really good price and they have a good variety...they have a few really good aged cheeses and some really tastey brie too! hmmmmm the Fruit Flows are sooooo YUMMY! they are frozen fruit pop things made with real fruit! The strawberry ones are the best imo. I love that store.... I need to still go to Safeway though too because TJ's doesn't have everything we need, but they have a good amount of the items for sure.... and they are soooo reasonably priced! i normally get out of their with about 8 bags packed full for $50! If i get dog food and vits its more like $70-$80, but still...... OHHHHH their Vits. are SOOOO CHEAP! most of tehm anyway.... they also have other supplements too.....worth a gander down that asile for sure! Here's what I've fallen in love with: TJ brand Salsa Verde TJ brand Gravenstein Apple Juice Vegetable Birds Nests (My aunt buys these... so yummy! In the fzn section) Mini Peanut Butter Cups (my impulse buy right at the check out) I picked up the Orange Chicken, Gorgonzola Gnocchi, bbq sauce, and a few other random things. I'm going to have to go there more often! |
