Kathleen, do you want to borrow my Angelcare monitor? I'm not using it anymore, but want to hang onto it in case I ever do home daycare and have an infant. It really put my mind at ease! You're welcome to use it.

Eh, I dunno.. kinda like saying almost half of the babes were boys, so it may be a contributing factor (I don't really go for research that shows what may have happened to almost half, because what about the other more than half?)

Wow, thanks Danielle!! I think I am OK for now. He is still in our room right next to the bed so I am not AS paranoid. Maybe in a couple of months when we move them to their room. I might have to take you up on the offer then.

On a side note, when I took the CPR class at Meegans a couple of months ago the instructor said that even if you have 10 doctors and surgeons standing over your baby when it has a SIDS episode that there is usually nothing they can do. Not sure if that is 100% true or not but it surprised me.

I have heard that too. I'm not sure if I am 100% convinced on that either, but from the extensive research I did because we had a baby in the family pass away from SIDS I wanted to know ALL I COULD kwim?

The things I learned didn't really help calm me any, but at least sort of helped me see that IF it was to happen, it wouldn't be a result of anything I did or didn't do kind of thing....that IF they have the brain abnormality assiciated with it, no matter the cause of that brain defect, there really isn't anything that can be done by anyone, not even the best of the best pedi specialists..... so I just told myself that IF it was going to happen it wouldn't be my fault.....

BUT you better believe that I didn't sleep well for the first 4 months (the largest occurance of SIDS happens before 4 months)....I was always wakig up and making sure he was breathing! Always! I still go in and check on him if i get up to pee at night.... its just the mom in me wanting to do everyhting I can to be sure my kid(s) are safe, and happy, and healthy....kwim?

Those monitors are GREAT! btw. we didn't have one but I have used one, its really awesome! And even if you couldn't prevent SIDS, it at least can give you a sense of security to know you wouldn't just sleep through some problem they were haivng. kwim?
