ugh, how upsetting.
they are banning liquids on flights now, and brittain is stopping all carryon baggage. I realize that no attempt doesn't stop ANYTHING, but all of these rules can be gotten around, kwim?

K... well I didn't read the whole thing (Jazper is crying so I need to hurry and finish) but yes it's upsetting that there was a yet another terrorist plot. But does it really negate having to ban passnegers from taking key-faubs and liquids onto planes in our carry-ons? How many people do not have a car that uses a key-faub? Everyone has one... gimme a break! And what are people suppose to do that travel with their kids and therefore pack their fuormula, snacks and juices to keep them happy on the flight so as to not irritate every other passenger? This is just getting plain ridiculous!!!

Soon we are gonna have to fly naked or something. Anna is right about the key thing, and you always carry them on you in case your luggage goes missing at the airport. Not to mention, how are they going to find all the liquids? They have bomb sniffing dogs for that kind of thing anyways and can you imagine how long it is going to take to board and get through security now?!
formula and medicines are allowed on planes, (foods, snacks aren't a problem) but they have to be presented at teh checkpoint in the original container.
I guess I just think that security with convenience is a thing of the past, and i'm a-ok with it if it's going to keep me alive. I just think that the whole "no liquids" thing can be gotten around. Hellew.... strap it to your stomach.
(we at SCM do not condone or encourage plane jacking or briging explosive liquids onto planes by conceiling them on your body :lol!!)

It's the price we have to pay for diminishing sense of security. It makes us law abiding people feel a little better. I don't think the purpose is to actually bust people. Those people are crazy terrorists, do you think they're going to follow the rules?

Actually, that just reminded me of the fair security this year... They had everyone go through metal detectors and hand their purses/backpacks around the side but they weren't checking the purses/backpacks!! DUH!

I dunno, I flew a couple of months after 9/11 and at Oakland airport I went through security with no problem but in San Diego I set off the metal detectors apparently with my shoes (the same ones I wore in Oakland!) so they whisked my shoes away to be x-rayed and had a lady security guard feel me up in front of everyone walking by. At the time it seemed the patriotic thing to do to put up with it but then when I flew about a year later the security was so lax it made everything before seem so contrived and pointless, like it was more for show than anything. Not to be too conspiracy theory, but I don't think the government lets us in on half of the REAL threats and some of the others are a little inflated so who knows what is real anymore? Now if they had actually tried catching Osama like they did Saddam, well, things might be different....
Hey, where did that soapbox come from!? LOL!

Got one better for you Lynette! After 9-11 I had to fly to Colorado with the Fresno State Swim/Dive Team for a meet and got tagged as a person to check at EVERY check point. Let me tell you how much fun that was! BUT here's the funny part... they ahd the metal detectors turned up so high that the underwire in my bra set it off so I spent the whole day having to show that I was indeed wearing an underwire bra! Nice huh?

Yeah, flying is now a pain in the butt. However I am with Jackie. Do what it takes I don't care if I have to wait 5 hours. I don't ever want myself or anyone I know or anyone for that matter to go through what all those people on the planes went through during 9-11. I couldn't imagine just waiting and knowing that you were going to die. Lynette I agree with you they need to work on their screening equipment and make it all work togther. We flew to Alaska last week and I had the same jewelry clothes etc on and I didn't set the metal detector off in Oakland, but I did in the airport of the dinky little Alaska Island I grew up on. Go figure. My husband and I got married September '02 and we went to Europe for our honeymoon. So we were flying to Europe 9.11.02. I was terrified to fly I even brought my Bible on the plane(it made me feel better). When we got to our internantional gate in Atlanta I felt way better. There were about 20 nuns and a few priests waiting to board our plane. I figured if that wasn't a good sign nothin' was.
yeah, and here's my question. why check one person at every checkpoint? Why not take those extra checkpoitns that (for instance) anna got checked at and check that many more people? How does it make the plane more safe to check one person 17 times. why not check 17 people THOROUGHLY once?

I so wish they would have done that! Besides where they were checking me... at every gate there was no where in between the last time I got checked and the next that I could have gotten anything that could do harm to any living creature! It was pointless and annoying! That said though security is important... and it never should have been so laxed in the first place.

Wow i didn't know there was all that security at the fair. Both times we went, we got in through the back. there was a guy there with the metal detector wand which i didnt see him use. I was asked to open my diaper bag but they barely looked in it so if i was a crazy person i could have easily brought something in. They also didnt check the stroller either which was loaded with stuff.
I guess all those people who went through the front got the security becuase we sure didn't.

We entered thru the gate on Brookwood. Barely got a second look. I had the bag in the stroller opened. They barely glanced at it. My dad who came with us got the wand swept over him(I guess since he came with us thru thu stroller entrance). Kids and I got no wand.
we came in through the back, jr got wanded and it set off the alarm... the guy said "do you have change in your pockets" and jr said "yeah" and he sent him though. didn't ask to see it or anything. LOL
Didn't wand me or Brendan, the diapers bag or stroller were not checked. how weird.

We entered through the Brookwood side too and I got wanded but they didn't look through my bags b/c they were strapped to the stroller so I don't think she saw them. My friend got wanded and had all her back in the baasket of her stroller and was asked to open all of them! They didn't "dig " through them though so I was kind of thinking "what's the point?"

I think as a group of mommies with strollers were are pretty innocent looking but I bet teenagers got lots of attention particularly at night. Probably all for show really just so people don't even try to bring that stuff in or go put it back in their car.
