I want to start a monthly book club. We pick one book a month and then have weekly check in's and discussions. Anybody interested? I'd probably just go back over what Oprah picked unless anyone else has an idea for how to pick books...those usually have discussion questions in the back and at least one person has said they're good ;)
Anyway, what do you guys think? Should we have a seperate forum? Check in weekly or at the end of every month? Any and all thoughts are appreciated!

I would LOVE to do this. I really miss reading adult books.
I personally would like to check in weekly but am up for anything.
Maybe we could meet monthly w/out kiddos and talk about books!! Now that would really be awesome.....or did I just reveal too much of my inner geek??

I have a reading disability and will have a lot of reading next semester, but I would give it a try. But I am not into romantic novels at all.

I've been looking for a decent, local book club for a couple years! This is a great idea, Mariah. I've already read some of her picks but that sounds like a good start.

Aw man..we got to at least make the first one one that no one's read...check the oprah list on wikepedia and see what you think
We tried to do a book club a while back, but it never took off. I would definitely be into doing one again!!

First off, I am seriously okay with re-reading a great book. But the following are titles that I just bought for myself for my summer reading. They were all recommended to me by friends. I am an avid reader so I am happy to read pretty much anything.
The Gravedigger's Daughter by Joyce Carol Oates (http://www.amazon.com/Gravediggers-Daughter-Novel-P-S/dp/0061236837/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1212631746&sr=1-1)
Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen (http://www.amazon.com/Water-Elephants-Novel-Sara-Gruen/dp/1565125606/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1212631684&sr=8-1)
Little Stalker by Jennifer Belle (http://www.amazon.com/Little-Stalker-Jennifer-Belle/dp/1594482926/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1212631813&sr=1-1)
I'll check out Oprah's list next!

OOHHH, do tell!!
the Outlander series by Diana Galbaldon...holy heck..it's got ancient mysteries, hot Scottish Highlanders with super hot accents, kilts (trust me...they can be sexy), tough tough manly men that fight A LOT, time travel and it goes on forever...there are like 10 1,000 page books but they go fast because you can never put them down!

Okay, I'm back from Madame O's website. I've always wanted to read:
Middlesex (http://www.amazon.com/Middlesex-Novel-Jeffrey-Eugenides/dp/B0013TFBDI/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1212632147&sr=8-1)
it's long though...like really long.
The Good Earth (http://www.amazon.com/Good-Earth-Enriched-Classics/dp/1416500189/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1212632185&sr=1-1)
But as I said earlier I'll read pretty much anything. I'm not too into "feel gooderie" but I'll always try.

Little Stalker looks fun to talk about. I'm going to check out if there's book club dis. topics in it
How do you propose we do this? Do you want to meet in person to discuss, or should we have a joinable forum where you can come on a set date and talk about the book?

How about a forum w/ weekly discussion...I'll post the topic on Monday and then we can discuss all week or so....then, maybe a in person lunch at the conclusion...that'd be kinda fun, huh?

Yeah, we tried this before and I kind of suggested we read Lolita because I always see it on the top 100 books of all time but it ended up being a pervy book so we kind of dropped it :bag
I am in! I don't care how we pick them really because I will keep my opinion to myself on what to read to myself from now on :D
That sounds good :) would there be a required amount of reading before the topics?

there's nothin wrong w/ a little perv ;)
But, yeah, maybe the first should be a little tamer until we really get into it :)
I'm gonna think about this a little bit, check out some books tomorrow and come up with a plan but keep the ideas and opinions coming and I'll try to figure something out that works for everyone!

Oh this is great! I need to get myself reading more. Hubby just bought me three books for my birthday and I haven't even opened them. The only thing that gets me is I won't want to even look at the discussions before I finish the book because I won't want anyone to give any parts away. So will it be like discussions on pages 1-100, etc?

I'm in a book club too. We just have to convince our other book club to read the same book as the SCM bookclub and then we get to go to two meetings for only reading one book. What a deal!
