View Full Version : what's your opinion on this new diaper?

um, I am a mostly cloth user (I am forced to use overnight sposies since skye somehow manages to even pee through those!), but this diaper choice kinda well, weirds me out...the fact that the baby can be in the SAME diaper until it has a poo is hard to swallow...I get that kids can be super squirmy and it may take a bit longer to change them...but this just seems strange to me....I think this may actually work for something like nights for a baby that wets a ton and can be woken by a middle of the night diaper change...(something I struggle with nightly)
what are your thoughts?

it looks like a good idea but how do you put the refill back in while their standing up?

Oh I dont think I would order them...I personally think its kinda yucko to use a sposie upto 9 times without changing it...I have a hard time believing it stays "dry" between changes...

So is it kinda like a maxi pad that you just slide in and out or a "path" Interesting. That would make life of parents with kids between like 1&2 SO much easier if they work as well as reg. Pampers! Kinda seems like it might increase diaper rash though. I'd be more willing to try it out on my son than daughter. Girls are so much more "open" to infections...

i agree life would be easier..I would really have to see one in person (sounds like they are coming to the shelves of stores soon enough) to make sure it really was dry in between changes...I could only imagine how RANK that would smell after 9 changes!

it looks like the part you take out and put in is as hard as cardboard. Not sure how comfy. Or it really isn't that easy to remove/replace.

I think the cardboard piece is supposed to be slid out after it's positioned inside the diaper structure part. At least that is what the video makes it look like (cuz I think the woman takes it out after the pad part is on.

ohhhh! Sounds more comfy now. Although still weird. Like "all" the liquid gets sucked through the liner part and up the channels.

i don't like it. i would rather deal with a squirming baby then have them sit in the diaper (even if the insert is changed) all day long

The one aspect of it that seems REALLY stupid, is that it is not really hard to change a diaper with pee in it.... it's when your child is covered in crap and they are squirming around that it gets more difficult - and that obviously doesn't help you out with that.

I actually think it's a cool idea. I'd want to see it in action though too. I'm just thinking when I'm super pressed for time and T needs a change and I have to completely undress and redress her shoes and all. That would make it really convenient. I also hate being out and not having a baby changing station anywhere to be found and I have to put her on the nasty ground. She squirms off her pad most of the time.

i think it's a really cool idea. if you guys ever had to change wyatt's diaper you would see why. i only watched the second video, but that girl has NOTHING on the way wyatt fights to get out of a diaper change. i've had to slow down on the cloth diapers too just because they are 50 times more difficult than getting a disposable on him right now, which is near to impossible. i am a pro at changing kids standing up, but since wyatt doesn't understand the concept of stand up and stand still, it's not totally working yet. i think i would wait to buy them until i heard what other people i knew thought of them. it is not me being a lazy parent, it's me being a parent of a ridiculously strong for his size and wiggly son. lol.

That is very odd looking to me... Hmmmmm not sure what I think about it. Looks to me like the diaper would get wet too.... at least with my kid :giggle
Who knows....If I got a free sample I'd try it out, but I'm thinking I wouldn't pay for a trial.

Aren't there cloth diapers like that? That have a little absorbent thing in them?
MamaLaura

Oh, and I think it's pretty cool. Definitely would be nice for those days where you're out and about all day. I hate having to change Kaylyn in the trunk or on the seat and have someone possibly see her vagina... Lots of pervs out there. And sometimes bathrooms just aren't comfortable to use (smell, cleanliness) or close by.

we use the trunk too....lately I've taken to changing him standing up though...
I better not get use to easy changes with a new one coming though.

Kay doesn't poop or pee on the potty yet, but she wants to sit on it AFTER she's gone. And sometimes she'll bring you wipes before she's pooped in her diaper, so she's getting closer to being ready.

Yes, however they are supposed to be changed when soiled/wet. The only perk to those are that you can customize how much absorbancy you add and that you can use microfiber which is so absorbant it can't be used directly against skin. But to me a regular fitted diaper plus adding doublers over like a maxi pad works just as well and you don't have to try to get an insert shoved into the little slit in the diaper, and back out after it is used.

While the inside part may get changed, it's just gross that there's that wet nasty 'pocket' that the pad thing goes into that's constantly on your baby's skin... sounds like a breeding ground for infection/rash, with that pee just sitting on the babes bottom...

I'm sure that there is *some* kind of material between the pad and the baby that wicks away the moisture - just like in regular diapers.

I am intrigued.
While I am convinced that cloth diapers are environmentally superior to disposable, I just could not get into them. (I'm one of those lazy people! :bag) These look like they would generate a lot less waste for landfill!
I agree that these should be used for the 1-2 year old age range, when poo-poos have become more regular and toilet training has begun/will start soon. They look like they could be used in place of the current kind of training pants.
As far as wetness/cleanliness I think it would be OK. Have you looked at the lining of the regular Pampers? They have this mesh that "floats" over the absorbent material. It is not too absorbent itself. I bet they have the same lining, you are just changing the padding. The mesh would stay dry enough for just a few hours until there is a poo and you have to change the whole thing anyway.
HEY! I'll order some and then do a DITL with Natalie while we try them! Oh, wait, I just noticed the size range is 20-30 pounds. Natalie is 18.something. They would probably fall off!
Not sure what they plan for the retail price. Right now it looks to run about $0.70 per pant (pre-loaded with a pad) and $.20 per refill. I can buy the pack of 200 diapers at Costco for $.17 per.
Hmmm....

the thing is though they are suggesting this diaper be worn for upto 9 changes! that "mesh" would smell pretty RANK if you ask me after 9 chenges and like Kellie said would be a bacteria FEST!

What they are suggesting seems pretty unreasonable to me, because it does get wet. I like the idea, but you have to use common sense too. If it smells after 2 changes, change the diaper. I like it from a convenience standpoint, but I wouldn't use it every time. For long car trips to OR. it would be great or going from store to store to store, yk?

Isn't urine thought to be sterile though? I mean if it truely stayed dry it shouldn't be chaffing the skin , which is where the bacteria get in, and if it is sterile where is the bacteria? I am not sure I am hip to the idea of wearing a diaper for an extended length of time but I want to stick to the "facts" before really deciding how odd it is.

Urine is sterile, but also acidic which is why it causes rashes when left wet too long.

ok, thought so. The acidicness would vary from kid to kid though and from day to day so I guess that would be a huge variable in how "well" they would work.

Yeah, I agree. After thinking about it after my other post, I thought this sounds better as a "special occasion" helper kind of product. Car trips, like you said, or if you will be running errands all afternoon. Similar to the special "swim diapers" for going to the pool.

I agree about the common sense thing and just changing the actual diaper when it starts to smell, as long as it really does seem to stay dry. You'd have to do a feel test periodically for the first few uses to make sure it really does stay dry, but as long as it does, I think they're a neat idea.
And they do say "up to" 9 changes for a reason. For some people that might work, for others it might not, but in ideal situations it should be good for that long.

OK, so I went to order some, because
1) I AM Lazy
2) I'll try anything once
3) I have lots of money to throw away!
OK maybe just the first two. But they only have them in size four and five. Amelia is barely wearing a three right now. Maybe when they come out at the stores they will have the three as well.

I guess Lucas could use them though. I mean, it's not a huge deal for him to be changed since he doesn't go a lot of places and he can't move very much, but maybe I'll try them on him just to see how they work. He's a size 4 or 5 (depending on the brand).
