What is up with the altered newscaster's voice?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdsJtF4VEIo khanson 07-21-2008, 02:49 PM That's hilarious :biglaugh Lorah 07-21-2008, 03:07 PM "no but having a vagina does" :biglaugh Ain't that the truth! Leigh 07-21-2008, 03:20 PM The presentation is funny! I am pretty much a "live and let live" type, but there is one thing that nags me about this situation, and that is the "hormone stew" that the baby must be experiencing. For a person born male or female to change sexes and live full time as the other sex, they usually take hormones to encourage physical changes in line with the desired result. You know, estrogen for higher voice, breasts, etc, androgens for lower voice, facial hair, etc. Sooooo.... did Thomas suspend his "regimen" during the course of the pregnancy? If not, how was he able to carry the baby to term, and what does that do to the baby? After watching this clip I used the "related links" to watch a couple others and one mentioned that the couple will come out with a book. I just might make a point to read that one! . Colleen&Kail 07-21-2008, 03:23 PM thats funny, i did a paper on this guy when i was taking my nigh classes. LessasLashes 07-21-2008, 03:40 PM Leigh, I think the news person said that he stopped taking the testosterone. He was artificially inseminated so they probably had to adjust his hormonal coctail to be conducive for achieving/sustaining pregnancy.. Colleen&Kail 07-21-2008, 03:45 PM she stopped taking the testostersone like a year before they started TTC. basically she is a woman with short hair that had surgery to have her breats removed. JMO Kellie_MO5 07-21-2008, 03:55 PM basically she is a woman with short hair that had surgery to have her breats removed. JMO :yeah Not exactly BIG news. The whole story really irritates me, but the youtube thing was really funny. Especially since the guy seemed to be giving "birth" to something else :giggle. Oh the similarities :giggle LessasLashes 07-21-2008, 04:05 PM Yes.. I thought that the clip was funny... and that he's sitting on the crapper... and air freshens at the end... MamaLaura 07-21-2008, 04:06 PM I believe on Oprah they said he stopped taking his testosterone. Leigh 07-21-2008, 04:08 PM she stopped taking the testostersone like a year before they started TTC. basically she is a woman with short hair that had surgery to have her breats removed. JMO :yeah ITA ... genetically she is still a she, however she decided to change her appearance... jmo, though Yes, I agree. Though I figure, if a person wants to go through all the damn trouble, I can call them whatever they want to be called. I'll call you rutabaga if you want! MamaLaura 07-21-2008, 04:09 PM I don't think it's some big medical miracle like they imply when they say that a man is/was pregnant. He still has female organs. But I do consider him a man... Just not a special one getting pregnant. Like, if my husband had female organs put in his body and then got pregnant, I wouldn't consider him special because he didn't get pregnant miraculously with male organs, KWIM? Kellie_MO5 07-21-2008, 04:10 PM hehe.. rutabega... :giggle Leigh 07-21-2008, 04:17 PM I don't think it's some big medical miracle like they imply when they say that a man is/was pregnant. Like, if my husband had female organs put in his body and then got pregnant, I wouldn't consider him special because he didn't get pregnant miraculously with male organs, KWIM? :yeah I wonder when they (Thomas and Tracey) made the decision for Thomas to not continue with his gender reassignment surgery, keep the female organs and bear a child. I think I picked up that Tracey can not have children? I suppose their plan at first was for her to bear, but that didn't work out? But it's odd to me that if pregnancy is the ultimate expression of womanhood how Thomas would find that acceptable, given that he is going to such great lengths to live as a "he". Of course all of what I just said assumes the dual-sex as the only options, no "shades of grey". Perhaps in another 10-20 years we will find these twixt-n-tween situations blasé. I am a sucker for wanting to understand people's motivations. I think I will read their book if it comes. . Maritza 07-21-2008, 05:11 PM SHE is still a WOMAN to me!!!!!!!!!! I feel sorry for the baby and I hope is a healthy one... KaisaG 07-21-2008, 05:25 PM SHE is still a WOMAN to me!!!!!!!!!! I feel sorry for the baby and I hope is a healthy one... :yeah MamaLaura 07-21-2008, 05:26 PM As the cousin to someone making the same transition (female to male), I can't help but believe that Thomas is a man. A man that used to be a woman, but a man. If thinks and feels that is he one, he looks like one, and wants to be considered one, then he is. Seeing it up close and personal, talking about it one on one, knowing everything that goes on with that person before they begin the process and during... I just personally can't view it any other way. weg'smom 07-21-2008, 05:50 PM As the cousin to someone making the same transition (female to male), I can't help but believe that Thomas is a man. I just personally can't view it any other way. I absolutely agree with you Laura which is why I personally find this situation so odd. I don't necessarily have a problem with it...it's just that, if Thomas feels that he is a man, and lives as a man, and wants to be treated as a man, why did he participate in the "ultimate" female act and conceive/carry and child and give birth??? Does it matter if I am confused? Nah, it's not my life and I don't know the family it just goes against what I've been taught about supporting a person who is transitioning...you know respect the gender that "they" are and not the one that society expects? I'm clear as mudd here, even I can tell.... Anyway, I wish their family lots of happiness and love they are going to need it. Totally, I am a live and let live person myself and I know the need to reproduce can be a strong one so since this was Thomas' only option unless they had the money for a surrogate, I can see why he went down this path. Any baby brought into the world to a happy, loving family is lucky IMO. On the other hand, I just couldn't help but find humor in using the pic as my avatar yesterday :giggle Leigh- IIRC, the wife has grown children and had a hysterectomy for medical reasons before they got married. Exactly what I was trying to say, but I think you two said it better! :) ... Leigh- IIRC, the wife has grown children and had a hysterectomy for medical reasons before they got married. Now THAT is interesting! Talk about the urge to reproduce... even when you already have children from another relationship, but now you want children in THIS relationship.... even if your partner is FTM. Hopefully the novelty will fade, this couple will drop off the info-tainment radar and the child can be raised in happy anonymity. . Any baby brought into the world to a happy, loving family is lucky IMO. :yeah I know what Thomas did is a very female thing, but it's one of those things where if you want something (in this case a biological child) bad enough, you'll do whatever you can to get it. Colleen&Kail 07-22-2008, 01:11 PM im all for doing whatever you want to have biological child but contacting newspapers (which HE did first) then going on oprah, then peopel magazine photo shoot....come on i think they are milking it for all its worth! Lorah 07-22-2008, 01:27 PM im all for doing whatever you want to have biological child but contacting newspapers (which HE did first) then going on oprah, then peopel magazine photo shoot....come on i think they are milking it for all its worth! :yeah MamaLaura 07-22-2008, 01:39 PM I don't think so, personally. I think that they knew people were going to be finding out anyway and it'd become big news, so they cut them off at the pass. Instead of being the people that were "found out", as though they were hiding some dark, shameful secret they came out with it first to show they aren't ashamed nor are they hiding anything. That's what I would do. It's like with celebrities... While I personally think they should have their own private lives that we know nothing about, the fact is they don't because people care so much. And when they decide to not talk about their relationships, pregnancies, etc in order to keep those things out of the spotlight, they just end up doing the opposite. Had this couple ignored the attention they would have undoubtedly gotten in just a short amount of time, it would have made things much worse for them, IMO. Plus, if they aren't ashamed (which they totally don't seem to be), why not make a few bucks by taking pictures and talking about the situation? Makes for a good college fund. khanson 07-23-2008, 02:37 PM Here's the story with a pic out of People. http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20214360,00.html Colleen&Kail 07-23-2008, 02:39 PM nice. i wonder how much they made on that article.
