Hello, my name is Lindsay and I'm addicted to knitting.
*waves*
Anyone else a knitter? Want to set up a Stitch N Bitch sometime? Anyone want to learn to knit, perhaps? I'm willing to teach, there is also http://www.knittinghelp.com/ which is a great resource.
I'd *LOVE* To learn to knit!!
It is difficult?

Nah, it's not that hard. If I can do it, anyone can (I am craft-challenged). There IS a bit of a learning curve. It probably took me a week or so before I really had the stitches down. And it was awhile before I knew all the basic techniques, maybe a month or so.
Go get yourself some size 8 or 10 needles and worsted weight yarn. Try acrylic or cheap wool, I find wool easier to knit with but acrylic is cheaper. Bevery's is a good craft store that carries wool yarns, plus TONS of acrylic and cotton yarns. I also reccomend starting out using bamboo needles. They are a little bit more money, but if you buy the Clover brand they are not THAT expensive. It's like, a thousand times easier to use that type becuase they are grippier and the stitches don't slip off.
Check out the getting started page on knittinghelp.com, too.
Oh, and if you want to get together sometime so I can show you in person, let me know. Maybe some other people on here would like to go too?

I tried to teach myself using a book and I just about killed everyone in my house. I was so frusterated. Then I was really pissed cause my husband looked at the book and figured it out and tried to show me. He is one of those people that can do just about anything after about 10 minutes. So yeah, I might be interested.

The book was ok for figuring things out once I had already learned the basic stitches, but as for actual learning, it didn't help me AT ALL. But the videos did! And the best part is you can replay them 2098403284 times! knittinghelp.com, man! It's the only way to go.

I saw in the local free family magazine (I don't know the name atm LOL) that there is a knitting club that meets in cotati fwiw. I think I woudl be interested in learning so I can make kiddo hats or something.

that might be interesting to learn! like I don't have enought hings to do in my spare time! :biglaugh but seriously... that might be fun. I have no real crafty things that I'm into right now that I can easily do with the kids tugging on me left and right!

I used to be a crazy scrapbooker until the kids started stealing my tape and stickers and then started to draw all over my completed pages:cuss. Anyway, I wanted something to do while I was with the kids while they were playing or having their tv time (which seems to be all the time...) and something that I could do easily. I have been knitting mow for 2 years and just about everyone I know has a bazillion scarves! I have recently made a felted purse for Marisa for her birthday and it was so cute! I am also trying to figure out how to make a sweater, but the patterns are so intimidating! One of these days I'll figure it out. I would love to hang out with anyone who already knits or wants to learn!

Really though, if you can make a scarf, you can make this stuff. Let me know if you want either of those patterns, I got them both from http://www.knitty.com/
Hi, I'm Barb and I like to knit. :) Some of my stuff can be found on my blog (http://barbknits.blogspot.com). :) I enjoy doing it! And it's something I can do with the kids in the room, and in the doctors office, and in the car... Etc. :)

My daughter taught me how to knit when she was in 1st grade. She learned at school. In Waldorf schools, all the kids learn how to knit in 1st grade! Then they learn how to crochet in 3rd grade, which my other daughter is in this year & I hope she can teach me!
I'd love to get together for a stitch-n-bitch! I really only know how to do the knit stitch & I think I can purl, too. I can't do anything fancy like your cute fingerless gloves! I love those!

You're welcome Stacy! No worries, I have 2390483290840923 baby carries, and I even have another carrier similar to that one, so I'm not missing it. You can keep it for awhile, even.
Ok, let's all plan a stich and bitch. I am free during the day most weekdays, or we could do an evening (tricker, since I work part time). Weekends are usually busy because of work and church. Let me know what works for you ladies.

Hi,
I love to knit, and crochet.. but I seldom find the time to do it.. I love yarn I love needles...
If you want to learn, I recommend taking a beginning class. They teach you a lot and you have help learning the basics and techniques.. I know there is one place in coddingtown mall that teaches these classes...
I also have just signed up for a beginning sock knitting course in February.. I am excited.. I rarely take time for me..

Now I'm in the middle of doing a sweater fror lukey on a loom... I also just know the basic stitches (knit, purl, rib...)

Hey Becky, do you want to hit up a yarn store in Petaluma with me? Or anyone else, for that matter? Knitterly in Petaluma is like my favorite store, and I really wanted to check out their Tilli Thomas yarn and maybe buy some Blue Sky Alpaca chunky yarn for this scarf I want to make (yes, I am a yarn snob :o).
It's been so long since I've knitted, I really want to do it more. But it's so expensive in the beginning until you have all your needles, ect. And even after that wool yarn is $$$. Unless you really like knitting with acrylic, you have to spend more. Some acyrlic really isn't bad, it's just that it splits sometimes and squeaks on the needles and ugh. I'm not much into it.

igg... gives me shivers thinking about the way cheap acrylic sounds on needles... :shiver: I need to get some yarm in jewel tones... I just signed up to do a friendship afgahn with a knitting group on yahoo.... I will be knitting 64 8 1/2 x 8 1/2 squares to mail off in the next 2 months...lol... anyone want to remind me how to cast on? LMAO

OK, one of my Parent Pack members opened a new Scrapbooking & Crafts store in Cotati. She is looking for someone to teach knitting classes at her store, perhaps beginning and intermediate. She has a growing client newsletter e-list already.
If you are interested, it is a great way to make a little extra money. If any of you are interested please contact Marcy at A Creative Expression in Cotati. The number is 707-793-9723. She is sweet and her prices are very reasonable on supplies.
Coincidentally I saw that some of you shop the local yarn shops. If interested in yarns other than acryllic let Marcy know, as she would love your feedback. She is just getting started as she opened in January so she is looking for imput!

I hate acrylic yarn (me= yarn whore).
Favorite yarns are: Peace Fleece, Classic Elite, Blue Sky Yarns, Tilli Tomas, Cascade 220, Plymouth, Lorna's Laces.
I also like the lesser known brands, such as Wooly Wonders by Nada and Mystical Creations.

The store is in the Grapevine shopping center on Old Redwood Highway. If you take the 116 exit off of the 101, make a right onto Old Redwood Highway. It is the shopping center on the right just before the stop sign. It is right across the street from the USA Gas station and mini mart.
The address is:
7981 Old Redwood Highway
Cotati, CA 94931
707-793-9723
She has tables in the back and welcomes clients to use them so long as they are not being used for the classes or when new inventory comes in. The kids and I have been frequenting the store lately. They have soooo much fun there.
I may be teaching a portrait drawing class there in March or April. Whenever the supplies come in for it.
OK, I am done rambling!
