Recently I have been asked several times if i can do this or that when editing photos. Anything from removing stretch marks, taking off a few pounds, touching up problem areas and even removing blemishes. I thought it would be neat to share a photo from my recent session and offer any tips for those who have photoshop and want to learn how to do these kinds of things.
This is from a recent session and so far has been the hardest photo yet for skin retouching. I am rather proud of the end result. I try to aim for as natural of a look as possible which sometimes can add hours of more time editing but the end result seems to be well worth it IMHO.
I used photoshop for the skin retouching and photoshop and lightroom for my color adjusting.

Wow that looks fantastic! I like that they still look human. Sometimes with airbrushing the people look more like robots in the end.

Wow...good work!!! Skin is the hardest processing...I'm totally impressed. When I really get into Seniors, I'll have to hire you to do my retouching ;)

Thanks so much ladies. I really appreciate the comments. I just spoke to the middle sister (yellow shirt) this morning. During our session I had asked the girls all how much retouching they wanted and I didn't get much feed back. I decided to create this sample photo so they all can take a look at what the finished product can look like and also share with the lady (their family friend) who hired me. So far they all are really pleased with the amount of retouching i did. I was really concerned about the youngest (white shirt) I know I am super self conscience about my break outs but I didn't want her to think that i was looking down on her about hers so i didn't comment on them at all. Instead I opted to do this sample and see what she says. As a teenager (she is 17) you want to look perfect so I wanted to do that for her while still looking natural. So far so good :D

i totally hate that plastic look. I know how to do it but i just cant stand the manikin look that some photos can have so try my best to keep is all as natural looking as i can while still smoothing out the skin

I'm more a natural gal....I do like my touch ups and such, but I like to try to keep faces looking more natural..and less airbrushed...if you want my totally honest opinion, I thought the two girls on the right looked great! Only if you saw the before would you know it was touched up... The one one on the left was obviously airbrushed. So although I thought it was a great job, it looked like fake skin to me...but I'm VERY picky about that stuff...
The structure they were standing near looked like it was adjusted well, but maybe a little overdone...
BUT that's MY personal taste ....
All in all I think it was a good job done! And I know that look is what many people want...so you are right on top of it.

i forgot you are super picky about stuff like that yet your comment about travis and his retouching made me wonder so i just thought i ask. thanks for the comment back though. its interesting to see each persons take

yeah becky.....even though there are 3 (active members) photogs on here.....we all three have different styles....so it's always interesting to see everyones photos....and especially cool to see a before and after if you ask me :)
