Dorian has been biting while nursing the last couple of weeks. The other day he bit really hard, and I haven't been able to nurse on that side since because it was sore. Last night I noticed that there was a tiny pimple sized puss looking spot on the nipple. Then while I was cuddling Melody at bedtime and she randomly pinched the same boob really hard, and ever since then the whole boob is super tender and sore. OMG, it hurts when nothing is touching it, but if one of the kids bumps it or something... What do I do to make it better? I was already leaning towards weaning Dorian because he was down to just comfort nursing once or twice a night, not really getting any milk. So last night I didn't nurse him at all, just cuddled him when he woke up around 3, put him down, he fussed for a few minutes in his crib, then slept the rest of the night. So I'm pretty sure we're done. I'm not engorged because I wasn't really producing any milk, or very little anyway. Ugh, make it stop!

Keep an eye on it because sometimes MRSA starts out looking like a little pimple.

I hope it feels better soon!

Yeah, it's starting to get red splotches, I'm going to try to go in tomorrow. Man this hurts like a bitch! I've had plugged ducts before, but nothing like this, this blows!

Ya, make sure you go in. MRSA isn't something you want to wait on. It could just be a regular infection but when I had MRSA in my breast it started out as a little pimple. I hope you start feeling better and it turns out to be something easy to treat :hug

Definitely don't wait... you might want to think about going to Urgent Care tonight.

It could be mastitis, which is a LOT more painful than a clogged duct

My gosh that sounds painful!!!! Hope you get it taken care of quickly! What a way to end the nursing relationship :(

You guys are freaking me out with the MRSA stuff! I'm leaning more towards mastitis or something like that. I don't think I have a fever, and no, nothing has come out of the breast or anything like that. It was so random that Melody pinched/grabbed it like that - she never does that, and she just happened to do it when it was already sore from the bite. And Dorian didn't even break the skin I don't think, it just hurt really bad, probably because he had bitten me (but not as hard) several other times in the last couple of weeks so it was already sensitive. I don't feel like it's an emergency, but I will definitely call in the morning and try to get in.

Sorry to freak you out but if it is MRSA, you want to get seen now and not wait until there is an appointment available in two days. I really hope it's not though... keep us updated!

So, after a collective 2.5 years of nursing, I have my first case of mastitis. She said that it was a mild case, which is why I don't have a fever or anything, but that since it hasn't gotten any better after 2 days that it probably wouldn't get better on its own. So she prescribed Dicloxacillan, a really annoying antibiotic that has to be taken on an empty stomach 4 times a day for 14 days! I guess I can't snack for a couple weeks lol.
Dorian's been fine with the weaning. He fusses a bit when he wakes up at night, I cuddle him, and he goes back to sleep in his crib. Hopefully when he realizes there's nothing to wake up for he'll stop waking up. I'm a little sad that I'm never going to nurse again, but I think we were both ready to move on. What a way to end the nursing relationship, huh?

Probably too late to reply to this but a plugged duct can lead to mastitis. When I got a plugged duct, the lactation consultant told me to lance it with a sterile needle or when in the shower rub the white-head looking thing with a wash cloth to abrade it a little and the warmth and gentle abrasion should rupture it. It finally burst when I was pumping, it was a little gross but it felt a lot better and sure beats mastitis! I had one side that was major milk producer and was a little more prone to this happening.

I hope weaning is going ok - physically and emotionally. Glad your boobie is getting better.
