I'm certain we did this before but it's been quite a while and I need a refresher. So as you all know, Brianna starts Pre-School on Monday and she needs a healthy start to her day in the form of portable breakfast. What do you feed your kids on the go?

What I'm looking for specifically is something that I can give her that she can feed herself 1) without making a total mess and 2) she can take in the car when she's not done by the time we need to leave. Some days she's a super slow eater so I want to make sure she's not going without just because we're on a deadline, yk?

My thoughts so far...
Yogurt on the go thingies
Pre cut fruit/veggies in a baggie
Cheese sticks
Granola bar (anyone know a good non HFCS kind?)
Hard boiled egg (not entirely sure she'll eat this though)

Bananna, cut up apples, yogurt, toast with butter. Those are the foods that my kids will eat in the car if we are running behind in the morning.

I like to make eggo waffles with PB&J, then cut in half and make a sandwich with them. The PB can get messy, but it works well for travel.

I 2nd the breakfast burrito thing. Great for on the go - and you can puyt whatever you want in them. They are pretty clean (depending on the eater) and easy to make ahead of time.

:lol You are assuming I have time to make them! That *is* one of my favorite breakfasts tho.

Bagels are easy and you can put whatever you want on it.

Muffins (made the night before or whatever)

Fruits in a baggy (already said a few times I think but its a good one)

Yes, breakfast burritos are great!

Cereal bars

Energy bars (like a rectangle bagel of sorts...TJ's makes a yummy one)

We've already stocked up on special K cereal bars for us. I know mornings are going to be hard when the kids start back.

We do the granola type bars (they are softer than granola bars) with the fruit in them from TJ's I think they come in strawberry, apple, and fig.

Trail mix in a baggie

I make apple pancake thingies, and freeze them. I just pull them out of the freezer, throw them in the toaster......no topping needed. I slice the apples into rings, and batter them with pancake batter, then cook like a pancake until done.

I try to push protein with carbs in the morning so here are ours that haven't been mentioned already:

Egg "muffins" (whisked eggs with cheese, green chiles or whatever baked in muffin tin in oven and make a batch days in advance)
Bagel and cream cheese, sometimes with deli turkey too
English muffin with melted sliced cheese (sometimes an egg muffin too)
Good ol' PBJ on wheat

I am so trying this one. I have a batch in the oven now, to see if they are a hit in the morning. I threw in some parm cheese and a little bacon.

Popovers are easy to make....they freeze well too. Just add a little butter, cheese, jam or ham and voila.......breakfast!

I got the idea from this recipe (http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Sausage-Egg-Muffins/Detail.aspx) but I left out the sausage and onion and added cheese to make it more kid friendly.

I haven't considered the eng muffin with cheese. Caty's a cheese-a-holic so those might be good. I get the yogurt squeezers from TJ's--they are Stonyfield Farms and cheaper than the same box from Safeway--no HFCS. The kids really like them. Also TJ's has great cereal bars. I think their granola bars are too hard, but I'm going to look for the softer ones that Terri mentioned. For us though it's usually chopped fruit and pb&j on wheat. TJ's also has the frozen french toast and waffles which are really good. I know Caty would never eat a hard boiled egg. :lol Good luck with that one! Better make sure you find it when she throws it across the car. :giggle

Caden is anti egg but I wonder if I could con him into eating these by telling him they are a muffin? He is a bacon and sausage fiend, so I could tell him it's a sausage muffin :lol

Here is another one (http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Egg-and-Cheese-Puffs/Detail.aspx) that is more muffin-y since it has flour, I just haven't tried it yet :)

I just like how you can make them ahead of time because Alaina really likes eggs but messing up a pan every morning for 2 scrambled eggs gets really old.

I am a HUGE fan of Lara Bars.

They are pure fruit and nuts in a bar. That's it. Nothing else.

I have seen them off-and-on at Costco. Too expensive at the regular grocery stores. If I can't get a box at Costco, I go to Whole Foods. They have the best selection.

Microwaving eggs works great, too! But only for scrambled...

Depending on the wattage of your microwave, just 30-45 seconds will cook one large egg up quite nicely.

Ava really likes those Kashi fruit bars. They are kind of like the nutri-grain bars but the Kashi brand.

Thanks for the info on the squeezers... Looks like MANY yummy possibilities from TJ's!! Yay! Thanks for the ideas gals!

Oh, and :rofl on the egg comment. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't even make it out of the house! :lol

We like these too. They are raw, which means the nutrients aren't cooked out, which I really like.

Alessa eats before we go to school.. but most of the food can be baggie transported:

TJs cereal bars
fruit slices/wedges
1/2 cinamon raisin bread with creme cheese
cheese sticks
deli cheese (muenster or monterey jack)
grapes

you get the gist
:)
