I am getting tired of the same ol' thing and looking for some new stuff. Thanks! KaisaG 09-23-2006, 11:51 AM Lynette-- Ever look on allrecipes.com?? That's where I get all my favorite recipes. It's cool too because the recipes are rated by people that have tried them-- so obviously something that was rated by 1000 people @ 5 stars should be pretty good. I stopped buying cook books once I found that site. It's great! becky 09-23-2006, 12:00 PM ooooh i'm going to have to check that out. jellybeanmichelle 09-23-2006, 12:43 PM I have a few. I'll have to look at the ingredients. I make two of them all the time. Zuchinni Cassarole Chili Corn Bread Cassarole Oh! and we can't forget dessert! Dump Cake! daisydoc 09-23-2006, 01:52 PM Lynette-- Ever look on allrecipes.com?? That's where I get all my favorite recipes. We get into food ruts aournd here just from not having enough time to think of something new and b/c James is the pickiest eater on the face of the planet! The problem with me is that most my favorite recipies don't require measuring anything. I do it from taste! But if you ever want to get together and make something one day we can. my mom and I have done that before. Picked a dish to cook, shared payign for all the ingredients and then hung out at my house and made/cooked it. When we were all done we both had dinner for two nights! We've done chicken enchiladas (I make great ones) and lasagna... you know... stuff you can make in larger portions and tatse good reheated! That is what we've been eating the past few nights. Unfortunatley I think little man is not fond of my dairy consumption so I think I am going to have to let dh eat the remaining bit or peel off the cheese top to get rid of most of the dairy and officially go no dairy after the last few servings are gone :(. meeg124 09-23-2006, 07:13 PM Scott and I just did a session at Dinner My Way. We've had one of the meals so far and it was very tasty. It was really easy to do all the packaging of food and I think it was fairly cost effective. Since I work evenings, this way I know that Caden won't be eating hotdogs and mac and cheese every time I work lol. Megan KaisaG 09-23-2006, 08:06 PM What is "Dinner My Way?" daisydoc 09-23-2006, 09:22 PM Anna does make a yummy chicken enchilada! That is what we've been eating the past few nights. YAY! Glad you like them... sorry about the dairy! hope it clears up soon! meeg124 09-23-2006, 09:30 PM What is "Dinner My Way?" Dinner My Way is this place that does all the food prep work and you go in and assemble the meal. The meals go into freezable containers and most of the entrees you can split into smaller meals. Each entree is supposed to have 6 servings and we did 12 entrees, so my freezer is stocked with 72 meals, just waiting to be cooked :smile Here is their link http://www.dinnermyway.com/ Megan becky 09-23-2006, 09:38 PM Megan. How does the pricing work? is the cost per entree. Its late and i jsut can't weem to quite "get it" meeg124 09-23-2006, 09:57 PM Becky - each entree has a price: Example the chicken Divan (which we had Thursday night and it was very good) is $21.00, that serves 6 and you also get a bag of rice with it. I think with what we ordered the total was $230 (give or take a couple of dollars). Here is a quote from their website: Each Dinner My Way menu consists of 16 entrées. When you order you can choose 6 or more entrées. When you order 12 you get a 10% discount. Depending on your choices the price will range from $109 to $132 for 6 self-serve sessions and an additional $30 for the pickup service. The price for 12 depending on your choices will range from $204 to $225 for self-serve sessions and an additional $60 for the pickup service. Each entrée serves 6. Most can be split into 2 meals for 3. Children 8 and older are welcome. HTH and you can get some rest :wink Megan Lynette 09-24-2006, 01:43 AM Kaisa- oh yeah, I know about allrecipes.com :) I have gotten some recipes from there that the family *loves*! Like a potatoes au gratin that my husband begs me to make all the time, a garlic prime rib I made for Christmas last year, etc. This is going to sound dumb but sometimes I forget what my options are, like I *forget* that I like chicken enchiladas and should look for a recipe and then when I find one I have a hard time figuring out if I should go through the trouble of making it because I dunno if the recipe is a good one, ya know? Anna- speaking of chicken enchiladas, I would love your recipe!!! Michelle- I have a dump cake recipe from Brians' mom already but would love the other two if you get a chance :) Lisa- you poor thing, no cheese?! I don't know what I would do! LOL! daisydoc 09-24-2006, 08:52 AM Anna- speaking of chicken enchiladas, I would love your recipe!!! Lynette: anytime you want to get together and make a large batch of enchiladas to feed both are families I'm ready! Maybe not this week since there's already the baking playdate and I have to make two apples pies (one for the playdate and one for for James!) but after that... anytime! becky 09-24-2006, 11:05 AM Anna and Lynette: i would love to join you. I make a killer chicken enchillada too. Maybe we all can cook together. I know my husband would love enchilladas for dinner. I also have a great reciepe for white echilladas which are a kind of very creamy casseroll so you can't be dairy intollerant but they are awesome. They have cream of mushroom, cream of chicken and sour cream in the mix. Marisa 09-25-2006, 12:43 PM I heard of Dinners My Way on the radio recently and have been meaning to check them out. Thanks for the link Megan! (and for reminding me) Is this the first time you've used them? And is there anything there you wouldn't recommend? KaisaG 09-25-2006, 01:23 PM This is going to sound dumb but sometimes I forget what my options are, like I *forget* that I like chicken enchiladas and should look for a recipe and then when I find one I have a hard time figuring out if I should go through the trouble of making it because I dunno if the recipe is a good one, ya know? Lynette- You could always search (on allrecipes.com) for a recipe using the ingredients that you have in the house. I've done that to avoid having to go to the store. That way you'll get a bunch of recipes using... say.... chicken breast. Then all you have to do is choose one that sounds tasty! StacyK 09-25-2006, 02:36 PM We did Dinner My Way last month and we were pretty impressed with most of the meals. They were quick and easy to prepare, and a cinch to heat up. the only thing we had that I wouldn't recommend would be the "enchilada stacker." And that is only because, I too make a pretty killer enchilada, and it has really spoiled us :) Theirs just wasn't up to par. :) daisydoc 09-25-2006, 04:22 PM the only thing we had that I wouldn't recommend would be the "enchilada stacker." And that is only because, I too make a pretty killer enchilada, and it has really spoiled us :) Theirs just wasn't up to par. :) Sounds like we have to have an enchilada "cook off"! :wink KaisaG 09-25-2006, 06:07 PM Umm my enchis aren't that great... So I'll be offering up my services as a judge :stuffface StacyK 09-25-2006, 06:15 PM I dunno Anna, I don't think you realize what you're getting yourself into...My enchiladas would blow any your enchiladas any day!!! :P Just let me know when you're ready and we can have a cook off....... daisydoc 09-25-2006, 08:05 PM so stacy... do you do yours with chicken or beef? what kind of sauce? b/c if we are using totally different things there wouldn't really be a challenge...kwim? ;) i do chicken and a special tomatillo verde sauce! Oh and Becky! you were bragging about your enchiladas too! What do you do? becky 09-25-2006, 08:27 PM oh this sounds fun. I told my husband about it last night and he is ready. I think it would be great to get together for another cooking gathering but this time its to share enchilladas. I make mine the easy way using two kinds of can suace but my secret is in the chicken. Most of the flavor comes from the way i prepare my chilcken ( that goes for both the red and white enchilladas). Just let me know which you want me to make. it sounds to me we already have a couple making red enchilladas so if you all want to try something new i can make the white. Like i mentioned before the white is made with cream of mushroom and cream of chicken mixed with sour cream. its a pan style enchilladas and really rick but very good. Lynette 09-25-2006, 08:43 PM Just made this one tonight but forgot the chiles. Everyone liked it :) http://chicken.allrecipes.com/az/ChickenEnchiladasII.asp becky 09-25-2006, 08:59 PM Just made this one tonight but forgot the chiles. Everyone liked it :) http://chicken.allrecipes.com/az/ChickenEnchiladasII.asp sounds yummy but i would definately include the chiles. meeg124 09-25-2006, 09:13 PM I heard of Dinners My Way on the radio recently and have been meaning to check them out. Thanks for the link Megan! (and for reminding me) Is this the first time you've used them? And is there anything there you wouldn't recommend? This was the first time that we've used them. So far I've only had one meal and it was good. My husband did the sweet and sour prawns on Saturday and he didn't care for the sauce. However, he is very picky about sweet and sour. The menu does change every month, so I guess if there is something that you don't llike, it won't necessarily be there the next month. Megan LMS 09-25-2006, 09:27 PM are yall bringing these enchiladas to the baking playdate? You guys are gunna make me fat. daisydoc 09-25-2006, 09:36 PM no... i think the enchiladas will be for another "playdate"! we should plan an Enchilada Lunch playdate where myself, Stacy and Becky can make our enchiladas and everyone else brings a side dish or dessert! Lynette 09-25-2006, 09:49 PM sounds yummy but i would definately include the chiles. I know, I was being a dufus because I looked at the week's worth of recipes to try to figure out the fastest one since I was running out of time and saw this one was the shortest but then didn't see that they were assuming you had cooked chicken lying around the house so I got annoyed and frazzled and forgot the chiles. I am trying hard to cook because I found that while I was running my business that my schedule was so hectic that all of a sudden it was dinner time and I had no groceries and no plans so we ordered in or something which is terribly expensive so the extra money I made was wasted. Like I was working to fund my chaotic disorganzation, ya know?! Now I have a cool system in place where I take the girls to the park along with a pad of paper, a pen, and the grocery store ads so I figure out what we are having for the week and make a grocery list while they are occupied and Salina is close by so I can run ideas by her and pick her brain. Then Alaina is tired out so she is not a hellion at the store :D daisydoc 09-25-2006, 11:25 PM sounds like a great "plan" Lynette! We were starting to have the same problem. James is a super picky eater so he would always be like "that doesn't sound good... I want..." and so we'd be ordering out or getting fast food! And we are just now getting to where money isn't so tight and I'd like to keep it that way so i made the decision that on sundays (or mondays depending on what else is going on) I'm going to make a shopping list with "meals" in mind. I did this for the first time yesterday and so far so good! I got home from the store yesterday and informed James he no longer has a choice in what we have for dinner. Whatever I cook is what he gets! :D So I'm hoping I can keep with it and that it helps save money, our waistlines and keeps us out of a food rut! Lynette 09-25-2006, 11:56 PM LOL! That is *exactly* how Brian is! The man will not make food himself because it is too much of a hassle but he will get in the car and drive all the way to Taco Bell without hesitation! He works in a grocery store and I cannot get him to make or bring a lunch to save his life so he ends up buying the deli stuff which is expensive too. When I started thinking about the cost of say pizza translated into hours worked I realized how expensive it really is. There are quite a few things I can't make because he just won't eat it: ham, terryaki, anything with BBQ sauce so what I have been doing is having us all pick one thing we want that week and then I just fill in the rest. KaisaG 09-26-2006, 07:38 AM Emanuel (h) is a fast food junky. I used to make him pick 3 meals that he wants to have during the week- then I'd pick 3. On the 7th day we'd have leftovers. Then I'd shop for everything I needed to make everything on the menu. Doing it this way made it so that he couldn't complain because at least half of the time we are eating something that he wants, and the other half we are eating my menu choices. TeagueMommy 09-26-2006, 09:12 PM That's a really good idea. I love eating veggies and my husband doesn't. Before we met, a veggie never entered his mouth! I feel like we are always making 3 different meals... kids, me, Virgil. I hate it! We also are definitely in a food rut. Today I picked up the new Rachel Ray Magazine and there are so many yummy things in there. I have the rest of the week all planned out:) I'm so glad that it's fall now because it's turkey and squash time! There was a yummy recipie for turkey burgers with cranberry saue on an english muffin... not something I would have thought of, but I can't wait to try it. I also need to pull out my slow cooker and dut off the cookbook. We got out of the habit during spring and summer, but it's so easy. I have a really good turkey chili recipie. StacyK 09-26-2006, 09:37 PM no... i think the enchiladas will be for another "playdate"! we should plan an Enchilada Lunch playdate where myself, Stacy and Becky can make our enchiladas and everyone else brings a side dish or dessert! This sounds like fun, especially since it sounds like we all make different kinds of enchiladas, (mine are chicken w/ a secrete recipe red sauce and flour tortillas...mmmmmmm, I'm salivating just thinking about them.) Lets set a datehttp://www.sonomacountymom.com/forum/images/smilies/general/thumb.gif daisydoc 09-26-2006, 11:19 PM so since we're having our baking playdate this friday for everyone's desserts when would we like to get together to have this Enchilada Potluck? becky 09-26-2006, 11:58 PM sounds great to me. I'm there. Who's house will this be at? My is always available. daisydoc 09-27-2006, 02:45 PM we can do it at my house. A tues or thurs would be best for a "lunch" thing for us. lmfike 09-27-2006, 03:22 PM I'm interested in the mexican food playdate. T or Th usually work for us. I just need to be able to leave Santa Rosa by 2 at latest. daisydoc 09-27-2006, 03:25 PM So how would a T or Th work for everyone... say from 11-2? That way there's enough time to heat anything up so that "lunch" could be at noon; people can eat, kids can play and people can leave when they need to? becky 09-27-2006, 05:57 PM tuesday works best for me. that way i dont have to worry about not being home one of the days my husband is off of work. I only see him twice a week so i would like to be there when he's home. StacyK 09-27-2006, 06:42 PM Tuesday's fine for me too! :) |
