What magazines do you (the whole family) subscribe to or read often? To get something for the kids?

I used to be a mag-aholic! At one time I was receiving Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, Vogue & Cosmo, Asimov's Science Fiction, and others I can't even remember right now. And I read them all cover to cover each month.

But now there is no time for all of that! Currently, only "Parents".

my folks hooked us up with a lot as gifts. the girls both get mag subscriptions. Kayla gets Highlights, Zoobooks and National Geographic Kids.
Myah gets High 5 (highlights for little kids) Zoolies (zoobooks for little kids) and some other one that is more like a book but she loves it.
DH gets National Geographic and love it. Gives him something to do while in the potty :lol
I only get Rangefinder but I love it. I am going to be getting another soon and I can't wait.

Me: Parents

DH: (gift sub) Inc.

and my dad got me Runner's World and PopularPhotography, which cracks he up to no ends b/c 1) I am not a "runner' and 2) I don't "get" all the jargon they talk about in the photography mags.

back when i was in college i got into one of those huge deals where you subscribe for a bunch of mag but only pay a tiny bit. I loved it but ended up with way to many. I would love to get Rollingstone and Spin again but at the moment we have enough.

All you that get parents or parenting mag, do you read it all? Is it worth the expense? I have only picked up a few from the market.

Check it out online (http://familyfun.go.com/)... Often they offer free subscriptions. I stopped subscribing for a while, then picked it up again when it was a freebie. I always find lots of fun, crafty ideas that I never use... :D

I'm enjoying "Parents" since it is practically free. I signed up for three years for $12 then something came along to add another year free, so I have 4 years for 25 cents an issue! I wouldn't pay newstand/retail for it. It's not THAT good. It is very brand-name oriented. I think that is how they can afford to basically give away subscriptions: the almighty advertising dollar.

I had a few samples of "American Baby" and thought it was good too. :anyone

Cosmo & Parents. And Allure started sending me their magazine, but I don't pay for it. It's odd.

I got the same type of deal that Leigh did for Parents. I usually only consider a magazine if I get a pretty big discount off the cover price. Most subscriptions give you decent ones anyway, though.

:yeah For a while I was getting Vogue and "W" for a dollar an issue. But I have changed so much, I just can't get into them anymore! Too "hard core" fashion. I think I may go back to something more accessible like Glamour or Cosmo. I'm scared, I think I live a "Redbook" life now!! :rofl

Martha Stewart - (xmas gift) I actually kind of like it.

Dh - Men's Health (xmas gift) I read this one too. :giggle

I do read Woman's Day or Redbook at my Mom's.
She gives me the ones with cakes/cupcakes on the cover.

Does the Raley's mag count, even though it's free? They have lots of good recipes in it.

The New Yorker
Fine Cooking
Art of Eating

DH gets Food & Wine but I am not sure we really read it.

Economist
Foreign Affairs (great for the treadmill bc the print is so big!)
Wilson Quarterly

Used to get but recently stopped for lack of time/interest: Sunset, Wine Spectator, Saveur.

I am interested in getting mags for J. He really likes looking at this free magazine we get called, "My Little Salesman, Truck and Trailer" which is basically ads for used trucks and equipment. He can look at it for a long time, its crazy!

.

I remember Highlights as a kid, Goofus and Gallant????:tongue Do they still have that?? What about Ranger Rick? Anyone remember that one? Any other kids mags anyone could recommend?

Oh, it was hilarious, few years back somehow we got sent a couple of years subscription to Vibe which is a magazine about hip-hop lifestyle. It was practically pornographic with the ads for big sneakers and scantily clad chicks. I found it somewhat fascinating--it's like reading magazines at the doctor's office about areas of interest that you would never buy but interesting to read about anyhow...

I don't actually subscribe to any, but I've been getting Parenting for free ever since I bought something at Motherhood when I was pg with Melody lol. I also get Vegetarian Times because a relative got it for me, but I'm not that into it.

Being Green here.....
But has anyone done a magazine swap?

Do you recycle your mags?
Do you pass your mags onto others?

I have maybe a years worth of Parents that I got from a friend.
I don't think I need them anymore. She also gave me a couple of Oprah too.

the ones that don't get destroyed or no one wants we keep. DH just can not part with NG and I wont let Kayla get rid of Zoobooks. I just started getting Rangefinder and I plan on building a library of those :D

None, I used to subscribe to the show Dane magazine but now if I have time to read I save it for a book.

Now that you mention it, I could have sworn one of the girls had a subscription from grandma that I have seen in awhile :headscratch

The ones we dont save, I rip our name off of and give to my Eye doctors waiting room or my BIL who is a dentist. Might take some to my hair dressers she keeps giving me trashy mags to read and I honestly don't care what is up with which ever blond sticky women is doing what with whom.

I try to pass them along to people who are actually interested, or I recycle them. Usually Kay destroys them first, in which case all the pages get recycled, just one by one lol.

If I take them to work to read on my break and finish, I will tear name/address part off leaving them on the table for others.
