Just curious if anyone is willing to post their successes with whatever birth control they are using. I am currently (and was before Baby Eman) on the depo shot but don't like having to go to the doctor every 3 months to get my shot. I guess I am looking for something a little more long term. We aren't planning on having/trying to have more kids for at least 3 or 4 years... Preferably I would like something that makes me not get my period- but I'm open to methods that don't provide that little "perk."

Thanks in advance. I know it's a personal question...

i am getting an IUD put in....it lasts for 5 years and one of the perks is after about a year of having it you most likely wont get your period (or at least thats what they tell me.) there are 3 sets of appoinments you have to go to, the first is a consultation where they tell you about it, then they put it in and last is a check up. i have a pamphlet on it if you want to look at it or look it up online i think the brand name is Mirena?

ooo i almost forgot, they can remove it ANYTIME and as soon as they take it out you can start trying to have babies....you dont have to wait any amount of time.

:yeah I have the Mirena too. I got it 6 weeks after Brianna was born and I love it. I don't feel it, don't have to think about it and since I hadn't gotten my period back yet after Brianna, I haven't ever had one since. It's great. And they're soo safe now. I totally trust my doctor and she said this was a great way to go.

Must be fate... I JUST got their pamphlet in the mail. I sent away for it before Baby Eman was even born I think...

Out of curiosity do either of you know if weight gain is a side affect? That is one thing that I hate about the shot... Even though I never had a problem with it before I got pregnant... I can't help but wonder if it has anything to do with why I am hanging on to this last bit of squishiness now.

Lindsay is pretty versed on BC if you want to email her. I think Depo is supposed to be really bad re weight gain and Mirena not an issue as far as w.g. but some have trouble with it.

I haven't had any trouble with weight gain with the mirena. *ahem* I should say I haven't gained any weight. (I haven't lost any either) but that's not from the IUD. :badscale LOL

We use condoms and always have. I can't be on hormones b/c I get hormone induced migraines after having been on the pill for over 5 yrs in my "younger" days. We have only gotten prego when we've wanted to. It's not a huge hassle either; and all that crap about it "not feeling" the same hasn't been an issue for either of us. You gotta do what you gotta do, KWIM?

And FYI... if you've been on Depo for yrs and plan to go back on it talk to your doc about the side effects. A friend of mine never got that info and now she's having issues with her bone density and Calicium levels. She's been on it for almost 10 yrs and will be 30 in december. Depo is actually really scary!

I wish i had an answer for you. I have only been on birth control twice and that was right after i had my kids. I didn't want to get pregnant while nursing so i took the pill. I had relatively no problems the first time around but with Myah, once she turned a year old, i had a period all the time. it was horrible. Then when i was ready to have kids it took two year in between each pregnancy before i got pregnant.

I too have reactions to high hormone levels. I was on ortho tricyclen but had severe reactions to the progesterone levels in it. B/c of that, it ruled out the possibility of using Depo.
Im on Ortho Evra now... have been for 3 years and LOVE IT

it didnt say that weight gain was an issue...it says that you might have a "spotty" period for a few months and then it will most likely go away. again im not exactly sure what the side effects for me will be since i havent had it put in yet, i have my appointment in a week and a half...........i will let you know then.

Thanks Colleen. I'm good on the depo for about another month (I better check on the exact date or I might end up with another surprise blessing!)

I was on the Depo shot after I had Salina for a year and a half and ended up hating it. It is supposed to trick your body into thinking you are in menopause where the pill tricks it into thinking you are pregnant so with the shot I got headaches and just a yucky feeling but it wasn't all at once which is why I was on it so long. We tried to have Alaina for so long birth control wasn't an issue and after I had her I didn't want to be on any horomones because of nursing. My midwife said she wouldn't do it either so the only thing left is the diaphram or condoms.

Personally, I think simply being married and having a 2 year is birth control enough :D We aren't using anything right now other than some estimations as to where I am in my cycle. Besides, Brian says Alaina has baby radar so whenever he starts thinking about it she wakes up and starts yelling because she doesn't want a little brother.

I had used one of the Ortho pills before we got married. I went off cause it did make me gain weight. I got off and I lost 20 lbs. Gained it back, but that's another story. My period was lighter then when not on it.

As of right now, we use nothing. Same thing as Lynette, Victoria doesn't want a brother or sister right now.
