Anyone have any slow cooker recipes they would like to share? I seem to do the same thing over and over and over and over again in the crock pot and I'm looking for something new! Especially since it is starting to be crock pot weather :)

Thanks, Megan

Do you like Chili Colorado? I have a really easy recipe and all you have to do is make rice to go with it.

Today we're making chicken stroganoff in crock pot.

One can cream of mushroom
One packet dry onion soup mix
Sour cream(I think its one cup but not 100% certain as I just wing it)
Chicken(I use boneless skinless chicken breasts-how ever many as I think we'll eat)

Mix all but chicken in bowl. Place chicken in crockpot. Pour soup mixture over chicken. Put lid on crockpot. I usually cook all day on low. Serve over rice.

I have tried really hard to get into cooking with a crock pot and don't have the best success b/c hubby doesn't like sauces or soups. Tried one the other night and he did't like it b/c "it's like in a sauce or something". Well duh!!! But it would be so nice to find a few recipes I could do that he would eat b/c it's soooo easy to just throw stuff in a pot, put the lid on, flip a switch and walk away to so other things all day.

Please help by sharing any tips you have! :)

Marisa: I checked out the site you listed. There's a couple recipes I might try!;)

I really only make two things in the crock pot but would love more reciepes.

Aside from bean (which come out perfect everytime) i have a very simple chili colorado type recipe which isn't a sauce or stew kind of thing really.

i get a package of stew meat at costco and place half of it in the crock pot (freeze the other half for another time or another reciepe)

Add a large can of El Pato (yellow can with the duck on it) You can find the large can in Lollas. If not use 3 or 4 of those small can so that it covers all the meat.

Set to high and cook for 4 hours or until it falls apart easily with a fork.

I then make mexican rice and thats it.

Thanks for sharing Becky! I don't eat red meat at all and James only has the occasional steak or hamburger... so if anyone has chicken recipes that they can share for the crock pot that would be great.

I love crock pot food, but my dh doesn't. He says he doesn't like mushy meat. Oh well I make it anyways. I have two crockpot recipe books that anyone can borrow if they want.

Same with my DH! It's too mushy; all the things taste the same; it's too saucy... what is it with these men!?!?!?!

It is a conspiracy. They know it is easy & convenient for us so they don't like it.

You gals are too funny. I guess I'm lucky my husband will eat anything that has got alot of flavor. He can't eat that much red meat right now but when he did i was in heaven.

My DH is the same way too. He hates 'slimy' stuff, so anything with sauce is hard to get him to eat. Well, he will eat it, but he won't like it :) Another good site is:

A recipe that I like to make that isn't slow cooker, but an oven bake type thing is this (everyone in my family likes this, even DH):

Swiss Chicken Bake

Sliced Swiss Cheese
3 -4 chicken breasts
package of stuffing
1 can of cream of chicken soup

Preheat oven to 350. Place chicken in a baking dish. Cover chicken with slices of swiss cheese. In a small bowl mix can of cream of chicken soup with 1/2 can of water. Pour over chicken. Pour stuffing over entire dish. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes to an hour depending on oven.

Thanks for that recipe Sara! I might have to try that tomorrow... if I have everything for it. If not then next trip to the store!

And Becky... ya be very happy you don't have a picky eater DH! They tend to make meals difficult! LOL

Mine is a PITA because she doesn't like "sweet" meat so no BBQ sauce, no teriyaki, no ham, no sweetness whatsoever. It is weird and hard because since Salina is a vegetarian, I can't make a bunch of stuff that *I* like! I have gotten quite talented at making meals that suit everyone.

As far as the crock pot, Pot Roast is a big hit here but that is red meat so won't work for you Anna. Otherwise I have done split pea soup in there too and that came out great. What does your husband like? I found a great dish that I made the other night that is a chicken and pasta dish but it has sauce so he might not be into it? So no sauce at all?

ya... he doesn't like sauces other than BBQ and even that is not "dripping" in sauce... just a light layer! So it gets difficult to do anything in the crock pot since most recipes have all the stuff in it to serve the whole thing over rice, pasta, etc... Like the other night I put chicken breast, cubed potatoes and carrots in the crock with a 4 cheese vingarette salad dressing, some chicken broth, a can of the condensed cream of chicken soup and a little salt/garlic/pepper. I have to admitt that the next time I try it I would use less dressing b/c the tatse was a little over powering but it was good! I loved it! Everything was coated in the "sauce" but it was dripping in it, kwim? I put some on a plate for James to taste and he looks at it and goes "there's a sauce on it!" I couldn't even get him to be a sport and take a small bite! Ridiculous! :rolleyes

Maybe remind him that his actions towards diff foods will affect how Sevannah eats or even Jazper later on. If one my older kids makes comment about the food served to them such as uck not trying Julianna will then not try it(most times but sometimes she'll still try it).

I really push that on him Lorrie! HE HATES avacado which I LOVE! The kids love it but he's always saying "oh ym... that tucky green stuff!" I keep telling him not to say things like that b/c it'll influence the kids. He's doing better but still! Men are frustrating!

Yes they are VERY frustrating... My husband was off yesterday and he actually called me at work to ask me why I didn't make his sandwich (I make his sandwich every day when he works...). I was like... Um, hello? Because you are at home all day so you can make yourself something to eat. When I got hom I asked him what he ended up eating... Jack in the Box. I wasn't surprised.

OMG!! I think I would have come unglued!!! I would have said something like "I'm not your mother and if you need to be treated like you're a 5 yr old go back to your mom's house and leave me the hell alone!"

or

"What were your hands broken? Getting too old to remember how to throw some meat and cheese between two slices of bread?"

I can't tolerate stuff like that. They're adults and can act like it. Needless to say James doesn't do that stuff anymore!

My husband is the same way. He gets up early every morning and has his coffee and such. I used to make him lunch all the time but now i dont have the energy to do so. At least he has started to make a sandwhich but i dont know how long that is going to last.

So I have chicken cooking in the crock pot as I type! But it's just the chicken and the "sauce" it's cooking in won't "cling" to the chicken... it'll just flavor it. So we'll see how that goes over for dinner tonight. :fingerscrossed

LMAO Kaisa! I think your husband and mine share the same brain :D
