just read the rest of the article... really, I think a parents rights SHOULD be terminated as soon as they drop teh kid off.. make them actually THINK about what they're doing, and not just go for a weekend get away or something... (though cases where it's not the parent that drops them off would be different, of course)... just so freakin lame, but hey, at least these kids have a chance at a life where they're *wanted*

I'm really glad that they have these laws but man, I just can't imagine someone bringing their 9 children in to surrender. What did he say to his kids "Sorry kids, daddy just doesn't want to take care of you"?? It just boggles my mind.

That is so sad. I understand the law, but it's really easy to feel overwhelmed and I'm sure people are going to take advantage of it (obviously). It's so hard for kids when they get stuck in the system.

I haven't read the article yet, but just upon hearing it, I'm happy for the law (allowing people to do it). I mean, I was anyway, but I'm especially glad. I'd much rather a parent surrender their 9 children then kill them all.

:yeah we have no idea this man/families situation. Some times verbalizing a request for help (even over and over and over in a mirad of different ways to a bunch of different people even...) still isn't enough for other people to get it and actually help out when someone is beyond overwhelmed, and I'd much rather this action be taken than than the dad snap and hurt his kids.

I totally agree with Laura! Who knows what the father was thinking, or what situation he was in....seems like he loved them enough that he wanted to at least take them someplace where he knew they wouldn't be harmed kwim?

So good for him!

Of course its sad for the kids, but I mean, who knows what the alternatives might have been otherwise without this law!?

Wow.... I can't imagine how hard that must be on those kids. Probably for the better... but still :(

I agree with Laura, but I sure feel for those kids too...poor things...but I would much rather that, then an angry parents abuse them or worse...I can't imagine what kind of damage this will do to them as the grow up knowing they got dropped off and I mean one was nearly an adult....

I definitely feel bad for the kids. No doubt about that. It sucks. It's sad. It's not going to be easy for them. But definitely much better than some of the possible alternatives.

I agree with Laura also, much better that they are surrendered than being killed.

:yeah to Laura. But very sad no less.
Wonder if the 17 y/o can just get emancipated and move out on his own...

that is very sad but i have to agree with all that was already said. its so much better for there to be laws like this in effect or else something bad might have happened to those children.
