I didn't register until we moved here. I never really kept up with the politics and didn't want to be called on jury duty so i never registered. I voted for the first time in the last election and i am really looking forward to voting next month

Not yet. I have the paperwork here, it's been here for a month, I just haven't filled it out and sent it in. I have to get on that now so that we can get absentee ballots.

:yeah

For me, I felt that there have been so many people, women in particular who fought, were tortured, and died all for my right to vote! So why in the world wouldn't I?

Plus, I always get irritated with people who complain about what's going on, and yet don't even vote...if you don't care enough to make a stand and take 5 minutes of time, why even yap about it. kwim?

Ohhh and Becky....you can get called for Jury duty even without being registered to vote.. It use to be the way they called people for it, but now they also pull from the DMV records. Just so you know.

Just so you know.ya i know. i figured that out years ago. i just got lazy about it and registered when we moved up here since I had the paper work at the DMV.

i totally agree with you on people complaining about what is going on but then not voting. For me I was never that interested in politics enough to keep up with it and therefore never said anything or participated in political discussions. My attention span and comprehension just wasn't there so i didn't want to vote unless i knew 100% what i was voting for. Now that I am older and in a different place in my life i feel confident in my choices and am a proud voter.

I'm thinking I may do that but being my polling place is like 100 steps from my front door that's sort of silly. :lol

Me too! Although, like Becky said, unless I feel I'm 100% informed, I abstain from voting on particular measures or whatnot. I would hate to think I made a bad choice just by being under informed. I try my best to check into everything before casting my ballot.

Ididn't want to be called on jury duty

If you are the primary care giver for small children (I forget how young they have to be) you can get out of Jury Duty. I stay home with my boys and I don't have anyone to watch them for an extended period of time, so, I called them and they said I just had to fill out the form to get out of it.

I have been voting since Bill in 92!! In the past, if I was uninformed about a race I would always vote for the woman on the ticket. But goodness gracious sakes alive that Sarah Pallin has scared me off of ever doing that again! (that's my attempt at being folksy :giggle) From now on I'll do what Marisa does and abstain from what I haven't studied.

That made me LOL! That woman is scary for sure!
I registered at 18 and have voted in every election since. Except for one random election a few years ago in Sacramento where a congressman died and they had to appoint his replacement, and his wife was the only one who ran and there was nothing else on the ballot. It was raining, I was pg, and I was like, hmm, I think I can skip this one...

I do :giggle about it sometimes though and say i will bring all the kiddos with me if they decide to challenge me. Heck I will even start nursing the baby in front of them if they didn't get the hint the first time :lol

i am registered and have been since the fall after i turned 18. i am a permanent absentee voter although i'll be honest, i have yet to actually participate in a vote. i guess you could say my life just went a little crazy after i registered (getting pregnant, sick, new baby, etc) so i could never find the time to actually sit down and do it.

I tried to register yesterday, but stopped because I have NO idea what my ID Number is (or even where to find it) so I gave up.

I'm not 100% sold on either candidate so I don't know for sure that I will be voting this year.

Also the deadline to have your mailed in voter form has to be post marked by October 20th

I have been registered since 18 but until I had my son I never actually voted. Now I find it to be a duty to read up on the issues & try to make sure his world will be a better place.

I'm registered now. I dropped my form off on Wednesday.

I still haven't decided who I am voting for, but I mainly registered to vote so that I can vote a big fat NO on prop 8.
