What the hell?! How can a registered sex offender be at my child's school spending lots of physically close time with the kids?! Just think about his own poor family and how they feel about it...

hmmm, crazy.
So, i was SUUUPER good friends with a bunch of my teachers in high school.. one was this guy Matt... he was young (by young i mean early 30s) and aws my french teacher. We got along really well and a large group of us would hang out in his classroom after school. He was always a REALLY positive influence on us and we were all good kids so it was never an issue. Then i graduated and invited him to my wedding...
then i loved to texas adn found otu he's been soliciting an 11 year old boy for sex for 4 years (he was 11 when it started) and he's now in prison :(

Gross, I just don't get it with pervs. My brother was molested when he was 10 so I never trusted adults who seemed to enjoy the company of children more than people their own age.

Brian was just telling me the other day he was at Raley's looking at the halloween stuff and this girl was standing there who just started talking to him. So they were talking about what she was going to be, what our girls were going to be when a lady walked by and gave him a dirty look. Then he started thinking about it and felt weird like it was somehow wrong to be talking to this girl when her parents weren't around which is sad too.

that's scary... b/c if he was just a "parent-volunteer" there's no way the school could have known. It just gets harder and harder to trust people these days.

how scarey. In High school my favorite teacher is still my firend to this day. Luckily he is just one of those geniun teachers who loves what he does and takes honest interest in his students. Its almost we got to see him grow up over the years as he met his wife in arrobics class and now he has 4 kids. I wish there were more great teachers out there and there was a better way to keep pervs out of the schools.

Some schools apparently do background checks for parent volunteers which I think is a great idea. Schools seem to think that because they are parents that they are harmless.

Salina's school is actually really pissing me off lately. They have this new principal that bags on girls only about the clothes they wear (she made Salina's best friend which made Salina go nuts and wear clothes that broke the rules for two weeks trying to get the principal to say something to her but it didn't work) and they constantly call the house with these recordings about fundraisers but nothing about the progress reports that went out last week or about this thing in the paper yesterday. Last night they called at 9pm and I thought it would be addressing this but no, it was about parking for the dance tonight. Talk about screwed up priorities...

My husband had a teacher that he HATED in junior high... He says the guy just gave him a really bad vibe. My MIL says that the teacher was always trying to find reasons to get my dh in trouble too... I think my hubby just had a sixth sense about the guy because when my hubby was in high school they found out that he was (and had been for a long time) molesting kids. He is in prison because of it! I don't get these f-ers either... Disgusts me beyond words.

lynette: I totally agree. I think anyone who wants to be at the scool (volunteer or employed) should have a background check.
If they dont' want a background check they either don't want to work there bad enough, or they are hiding something :(

This is the reaosn I'm not a supporter of co-op pre-schools. Anyone that I've checked out does not do background checks on the parents, only the paid employees.

Megan: i never really thought about that when i comes to co-ops but you are right. It seems no matter what we do those pervs someone manage to find themselves around kids. its so sick!

the other thing you have to remember is that these people aren't born perverts... well, they are int heir mind, but not in their actions. There always has to be a first victim... so even someone with a clean slate can still be a TOTAL freak in sheeps clothing

So true! Which is why in this particular case is so exasperating because his first *convicted* offense is minor in the eyes of the law but most people understand it is just the beginning. Like John Karr, anyone believe he is just going to stick to pics?

Today in the paper the school district is saying the followed the law and background checks are too expensive. I am sure that will make the victim feel better.

yeah, i'm sure ANY school when hire him after he falsely confessed to killing a little girl, and explained to the world how he was in love with her...
it takes one kid of demented sicko to actually do that, but it takes a whole different kind of demented sicko to not do and take "credit" for it happening.
