View Full Version : b/c I always need a new crafty project...
... I've learned how to make my own baby legs http://www.dallasareamoms.com/forums/images/smilies/lol.gif
They are super easy and fun to make and they cost about $4.
You make them using Kneehigh Socks.
so here are the socks I bought

and here's the first set I made:

okay I must be out of a loop... what are baby legs??? :confused

They are great for potty training, layering under pants for cold weather or for a cute layered look under shorts and skirts :)

So do you make them out of women's knee highs? How do they stay up on chubby baby thighs? And more importantly, how are ya gonna get those pink argyle ones on Brenden without JR noticing? :D
Oh, and if they stay up well, I would sooooo be interested in buying some from you! I was just looking through Alaina's skirt's wondering how I was going to be able to dress her in them because tights are a PITA!

Well that makes me feel better! At least I know it's just not me! :tongue

Lynette: The band at the top of the sock is pretty snug and stays put around chunky thighs. Kids with EXCESSIVELY chunky thighs may have trouble keeping them up (b/c the band wouldn't be big enough and may roll down).
Yes they are made our of knee highs.
And the pink ones aren't for me HAHA. Funny that you caught that though :lol
I just bought them b/c I loved the pink and red and figured I could always kind find someone with a little girl to send them home with. LOL
They cost me a whpping $3.99 to make

I love this idea! - would you mind elaborating on how you made them exactly? Obiviously you cut of the foot part, but I can't tell where the part you sewd in its place came from.
Great project, I'm defininately getting Ebin some next time I hit up Target!
You actually cut right above where the sock gets wide for the heel, then you cut right BELOW where the sock gets narrow for the arch of the foot, then you cut before it narrows for the toe. You use that part (between the hell and toe) for the cuff
Here are some VERY easy to follow instructions

maybe it's 'cause it's late and I should be in bed but I am so confused! :lol I'm a hands on kind of person and sewing has never been a strong point in my life. I don't even own a sewing machine! :bag I'll have to come over Jackie and watch you make a pair sometime.
anna: Sure! Anytime!
Lynette: I did a pair of the girls ones (the chenielle-like Argyle pink ones in the first pic) and i messed up a stitch in the top.. they are wearable, but i can't promise they'll washup well for very long b/c of that slip up. If you want to try them, I'll give them to you, I mean... I have no use for them! That way you can see if Alaina will even keep them on!

LOL! I don't have one either. By step 4 I was thinking, "Huh?! Zigzag stitch?!"
My one and only attempt at sewing on a sew machine was when Salina was the flower girl at my best friend's wedding and she wanted me to make the dress. I figured they had sweat shops in Asia where kids make this stuff so it couldn't be too hard. Uhhh, yeah.....:bag
:lol yall are crackin me up.
Lynette: If you want to pay for them, I won't take any more than the $4 the socks cost.

Deal :D So you wanna swap when the pics come in?
Those are cute! I'm thinking I need to make a pair (or 5) for my 4 year old niece for Christmas! :)
Lynette: Sure!
Barb: If you want me to make them, I'll do them for $6.

I might be interested also Jackie. Is that $6 for the sock and labor or $6 labor? Also known as if I give you the socks would you charge $2 or $6 a pair? Where'd you get the socks?
I got the socks at Target.
$6 is with the socks and labor. If you want to buy the socks, It'll be $2. They are seriously so quick to make that that's really all it's worth. LOL. I just know some people dont' have a sewing machine or hate sewing (like i used to)
If you buy the socks, they have to be knee highs.

I want some!!
I'm going to have a red pair up for grabs in a few minutes.
I wanna see a pic of B in the Hard Core ones! They seem like a cute idea, I just got a new sewing machine, so next time I am at Target I will pick up a few for A :)

The girly ones are like a thousand times cuter than the boyish ones. LOL. How sad that i'm hoping the next one is a girl just for the clothes. :lol

That's how I felt too, luckily I was blessed with a little girl. I was so afraid to tell my mom if it was a boy because she already has 2 grandsons and was dying to have a grand daughter so we could buy her dresses lol.
B is soooo cute! He was so proud of his socks twirling around in the kitchen!

What was up with the circling in the kitchen? :lol was he twirling or just "lost"? He's too cute JAckie! Oh and how are the cloth diapers working out?
my MIL desperately wants to get me a sewing machine! She's totally into sewing and my Grandma is a hand weaver... but I know she's given up on me! LOL BUT my MIL... she still tries! Every once in a while James will come home and say "honey.... mom asked me again if I thought you'd like a sewing machine!" I know one of these days since Sevannah will be starting school that I'll have to bite the bullet and get one... or let my MIL get it! :D

Oh I hear you, we were hoping Alaina was a boy so we could stop at 2 but when we found out she was a she the first thing I said was that the clothes are so much cuter! LOL!
anna: I'd let her get you one. The nice ones are pricey so i could never spend that money on myself. I want my mom to get me one for a christmas or birthday gift, but until then I guess I just have to suffice on her old one she gave me (she hates sewing).
Oh, and the twirling was just that.. twirling. For some reason he does it ALL the time. It's so weird! We have so many photos and videos of him doing it. It's nuts.

Does he run into the walls when he's done twirling? When Sevannah first figured out how to twirl she would do it really fast and then try to walk.... right into the wall! :biglaugh It was hysterical!
so but he is known to start to walk, then slowly stumble, then collapse. LOL

Yay for a new project idea! I was feeling bad because I don't have time to make my usual new 'congrats you're pregnant' gifts (knit hat/booties) for a friend who just announced she's expecting, so I saw this at the perfect time. Thanks!!!:cheer3
I finally made my first baby legs :) They are so cute on Amelia! I think I need to make the next size up though because they are a bit small on her (I got girls size medium socks).

I love those! I am going to make a pair also. Did you sew them on a machine or hand stitch? I can do either but was wondering which you found easier. I love easy and quick projects that are fun and cute!
The machine made it really quick. Once I figured out how to make them, my second pair only took about 5 minutes on the machine including cutting.

I just hacked off the bottom part of the sock from a pair of toe socks from walmart (literally the ones with the toes individual) They rolled a tiny bit but that is all. No fraying. I don't sew :)
Here she is...so happy!
