View Full Version : ?'s about the beach
Okay, i'm SO not used to this northern california beach weather... it's nuts!
We are doing our christmas cards this year with this adorable little template i bought from a friend of mine b/c I knew I couldn't recreate it. I requires pictures on the beach, though... so we want to go, all three of us, to the beach at Bodega... but when we went last week it was soooo foggy (granted we went pretty late b/c i was trying to be nice and let jr finish watching his football game, and then he forgot that it gets foggy there in the evenings)
but whati need is a place that actually has some sand... not just rocks, and preferrably one that isn't crammed with people 24/7... is there a small stretch of beach that most people don't go to for whatever reason? also, whats the best time to go - this saturday for example - to get it to be sunny?

When it's sunny out in Bodega Bay? Umm....My husband says to call the hotels out there and ask for a weather report, He get's alot of calls like that, but you better hurry, cause this time of year is when it's the best weather. The further you get into November you will loose it to fog. When there is off shore winds, that is when it tends to be clear at the coast.
As for beaches, try Doran Beach, Salmon Creek, or Portuguese Beach.
Doran Beach is right below Bodega Bay Lodge and Spa. (husband works there)
The other 2 are 10 mins from downtown Bodega Bay.
Hope that helps.

when you say rocks do you mean not those little pebbles? I personally love school house beach which is above salmon beach but it has the tiny pebbles instead of sand. Its usually empty though and has some great cliffs as a back drop.

becky & michelle listed all the good ones!
becky: No i mean the huge jaggedy rocks that you have to climb over... pebbles instead of sand is fine :)

Doran is closest I think and it doesn't seem too busy to me but you might have to photoshop the odd person here and there. It does seem windier there though than Bodega Dunes which is further up the road a bit but the wind kicks up in the afternoon I think?
This is Doran in June in the afternoon during the week

I really like Dillon Beach in Marin. The drive is not much longer than the one to Bodega, it has a great beach you can walk right onto... you can walk for miles, so if you walk far enough there will be less people. The only draw back to it, are that you have to pay $5 to use the beach (it's privately owned) and that lots of people bring their dogs and do not use leashes. I'm not fond of dogs I don't know running up to me or my little guy.
October is the best beach month and earlier in the day is going to be better for the wind conditions.
Have fun!

Too bad we aren't in Santa Barbara. My sister took my maternity photos there for me on the beach and I LOVE them. She has the sunset in the background, some of me in the water, sitting on a big rock, kissing my dh with his hands on my big belly... She did both B&W and color.
