i'm making deviled eggs and the whites aren't peeling right! i boiled them normally, let them cool, and now an hour later i'm getting to peeling--and they aren't working! i salted the water too!

i've ruined 3--so i'm taking a break and asking for some help. either they start acting right or we are having egg salad.

any ideas?

Try peeling them under running water.

:yeah to the water. Also i think the older the eggs the harder they are to peel. maybe its the other way around...sheesh i can't remember but maybe someone here will.

how are they coming? I was going to suggest teh water thing too... Also start at the point where it's hollow between the egg and the shell. Normally that's the flatter end.

well i boiled 18 and killed 8--the yolks made it so the spread is really good! i did try the water, but i was still having problems. my answer--make roy do it. :lol there are a few that made it, but aren't pretty.

the spread came out really good though. i even piped it through a plastic bag. :) so we had 20 that came out and everyone here has eaten about 10. :bag so i covered them and put them in the fridge. caty loves them!

thanks for the ideas ladies. these eggs were fresh from the store, so maybe they hadn't sat long enough.

the moral for me is--if i can't do it, make my husband. :lol

Theresa I feel your pain! I forgot about the fresh egg thing and ruined a whole EIGHTEEN PACK (!!!) of eggs. I threw them all away. I never waste food if I can help it but I was so frustrated.

I wish I had thought of your idea for egg salad or something. These eggs were SHREDDING when I tried to peel them!!

I keep seeing the title to the thread and ALWAYS think eggs as in inside you ready to be fertilized type of eggs :biglaugh yeah, I KNOW you mean chicken eggs, I've read the thread a few times (but didn't haev anything to add, as my advice was the water thing, too) but still, I think EGGS :giggle

I have been thinking the same thing too, then I realize its in the food/nutrition section - not infertility!

I too thought this was going to be about ovulation.. but since its not.. a suggestion I have and so far has worked is to tap the egg on the counter (I use a damp paper towel underneath) to get a crack. Then using the palm side of your hand roll the egg semi firm pressure (obviously don't squash) and it'll cause more of the shell to crack and it falls off the egg pretty easily.. not breaking the whites..

Good luck... or maybe you just had a bad batch of uncooperative hens.. if that's the case.. make some yummy eggsalad and serve as an appetizer over stoned wheat or triscuit crackers

Eggs and Salted water to a rolling boil.
Cover for 20 minutes.
Turn off and remove from heat.
Strain water and add cold water.
Eggs are oval they had a flat side and a tipped side . The flat side usually has a air bubble in it . Break the shell to that air bubble.
Let sit till cool (sometimes i add icecubes to the process)
Peel under running water.
Thats what my grandma told me how to peel eggs :)
