View Full Version : Are you a 'food snob'?
What are you particular about?
For me, I can't eat grapes if they are even the SLIGHTEST bit mushy... they have to be CRISP.
Also, any fruit that is bruised I can't eat - it just grosses me out.
Are you funny about certain foods?

I am just about the world's pickiest eater... I won't anything that is green and mushy; there are about 4 vegetables that I will eat; since I was pregnant with Caden I have been kind of anti poultry; unless it's deep fried, I can't eat shrimp because the texture of it is like chewing on a finger. Not that I ever eaten a finger, I just imagine that is what it would be like :thumb
However, in my next life I am going to be a professional chef and for being so picky, I am a pretty good cook in this life and a self proclaimed entertainment queen. Of course that is more about showing off than really liking to cook :tongue

Yeah but they have become so ingrained in some cases that I forget not everyone does them ya know? A couple I can remember are that I don't eat any meat that had to die specifically for me (as in cornish game hen, shrimp, lobster, etc because cows and chickens can be shared among other people) and that I have to toss any leftovers after two days.

o i just thought of one more thing that me and neil are really wierd about....when i eat any kind of meat there has to be NO FAT on it anmhywhere! the most gros thing to me is when you take a bite of meat and you get a piece of fat. everyone thought that i was sooo wierd becaus i would cut at least half of the meat of trying to get rid of the fat. when i met neil he did the exact same thing! LOL it must have been love.....
OMG, i'm the same way. I ONLY eat Filet b/c it has so little fat.oh YUCK.. the texture and everything FREAKS ME OUT

:yeah
When I was a kid my mom used to say, "But you are wasting all the sweet meat!" and eat it off my plate and Brian's mom would covet everyone's blob of fat on the prime rib when we went out which is one of the reasons I get the filet mignon, no blobs of fat!

I'm the same about grapes and apples... don't mind that much about meat, I just cut the fat off... I don't eat much seafood.. only shrimp that's been bbq'd or sauteed.. HATE the little raw ones in salads or cocktail..
Really, I'm more of water snob. I cannot drink tap water... when my dad remarried my step mom she changed him, became VERY materialistic and into money, and started drinking bottled water... well, it kinda stuck with me, and ever since I cannot stand the taste of tap...

Apples have to be hard and crispy.
Bananas have to be slightly green.
Grapes have to burst when you bite down.
Bacon has to be cripsy! No floppy bacon!
vegetables have to still be slighty crisp when cooked.
James is pickier than I am! He does that same thing as you and Neil, Colleen! He cuts all the fat off his steaks before he eats it! :lol He hates avocado which I LOVE!

I'm not too picky- but my dh is! He's the same way with apples, grapes, bananas, meat, etc. He'll ONLY eat pan roasted turkey from Safeway on a sandwich- won't eat onions, peppers... and if he's eating a tomato, it has to be super firm. Although I prefer everything that way, I'm not going to let it go to waste just cuz it's not exactly how I prefer it.
i'm all for cirspy bacon too. When I'm out for breakfast I ask for burnt bacon

:lol I always ask for it "extra cripsy" and it always shocks me when it comes out limp and floppy! Ummmm pretty sure that's not crispy!

Oooh, I'm not alone in my meat dissecting?? DH used to think it was hilarious to watch me pick apart my meat and now he just gets annoyed. I won't eat ANY fat, veins, gristle, etc. So that usually means I get like 3 or 4 bites out of a steak or even chicken. It's the texture that grosses me out mostly cuz it reminds me that it was once alive!

oooh, i love raw tomatoes. I cut up a big (firm) juicy tomato and put it in a bowl and DRENCH it in greek salad dressing. YUMMMMMMMY

I can be a picky eater when I want to be, but...
I will not touch raw chicken! So, if my hubby wants chicken, he has to cook it. Last Xmas was my first time cooking a turkey, Oh I had to put gloves on just to touch the turkey! That was the first and last time I cook a turkey. I thought the thing was going to come alive and dance. :)
I'm not really a meat person. I guess I'm kind of a veg head. I'll eat fish sticks and Tuna, but that's as far as I will go with fish.
What about wine? We have a bunch of bottles of wine. I don't really like the stuff. My hubby will drink it once and awhile, but why open one bottle for one person?

I never liked raw tomatoes until I was pregnant- now I LOVE them!
As for meat- okay the ONE thing that will make me lose my appetite while I am eating (no matter what kind of meat it is!)- is when I see a vein in there. You can talk about pooping, puking, bleeding, or anything else and I will just keep chomping away... But the moment I catch a glimpse of a vein- I'm done!

a few days before Elias was born my mom brought over a whole chicken and cooked it for me (stuck it in the convection oven) but left before taking it off the bone. Deboning that thing nearly left me a vegetarian! It was soooo gross and I think I only got like half the meat off. I would have had no problem putting the raw chicken in the cooker and then walking away fromit, it cooks itself, it is trying to get the meat off and detached from the fat and tendons and junk that is the "hard" part. Blech!

Love raw tomatoes, I haven't ripped out my tomato plants in the backyard yet because they still have some green ones on there that I am hoping will turn red. I know, I am in denial...
Yuck about veins though! I grew up with a family who eats the chicken directly off the bone and it used to freak me out because you know there is all sorts of fat and veins in there! I have to dissect it.
Also have to drink bottled water because I have a problem with the smell/taste of the chlorine in tap water.
Not a fan of raw chicken or turkey either, have you seen that commercial with the lady rubbing the chicken quarter all over her chicken?! Gives me the willies! I do suck it up sometimes and do it and then scrub the heck out of my hands afterwards...
ewww, me too. raw meats gross me out.
OMG, here's a HORRIBLE confession. When i was really young my mom would good with ground beef and for some reason when my grandmother was a kid (i guess none of the probelms from uncooked meete were talked about then) she would roll up a ball of the ground beef, cover it in salt and eat it. RAW MEAT! My mom did that for a while too. I tried it once. It's actually VERY good but the thought of what it is is so gross that it would have to taste about 20,000x better to be willing to eat it again

I knew some kids who did that too but because of how eColi comes from poop and can end up in the middle of your hamburger, I can't even eat one medium rare now. Steak, sure but not burgers.
Actually, raw eggs make me squimish too so cookie dough is out for me...

Same here! :lol I don't gag at the smell of raw tomatoes but I can't eat them! They turn my stomach. But I took love salsa, spaghetti sauce and ketchup! Though I do have to be careful which spaghetti sauses I eat b/c it they are super tomatoe-y I end up with a very upset tummy! :(
yeah, under cooked eggs eek me out. I'd rather my eggs be overcooked and spongey than slimey (we need a barfing smilie)

I have never understood the infatuation people have with cookie dough... it's just never done anything for me personally...
Has anyone ever had the fresh peach pie from Marie Callendar's? OMG it is the best... they only sell it at the VERY height of peach season. I've eaten countless by myself (my dh will tell you how greedy I am when it comes to that one pie). It's the only pie (besides an occassional banana creme) that I care for. Man I could go for one right now... 8 more months to go :(

I love dough too. I made chad cookies the other day and had to run to my sisters so had some dough left with the intention of cooking the rest the next day. Yeah, didn't happen I ate it all. Kaisa my husband loves banana cream and that is the only thing so every birthday(which was yesterday) and holiday his mom or I make him one. Well I thought all these years his mom made him banana cream from scratch so last year I went on martha stewart and found a recipe and it is a PIA. Anyways the recipe is so good the only banana cream I like. Yeah, and come to find out for all these years his mom has used instant banana pudding to make his pies oh well he get's them from scratch now.

Oh yeah on chicken. If Chad and I are eating chicken off of the bone I dissect it and pick my meat off. I don't just pick it up and chomp on it. He will grab my wing or leg or whatever and pull the rest of the crap off and eat it. It is disgusting. Mine will look barely eaten and his will be just a bare bone it is so gross I can't even think about it.

when I make cookies I have to make two batches.... one just for eating teh dough! James LOVES raw cookie dough. He'll scopp a "pile" intoa bowl, grab a huge glass of milk and sit down and eat it like it's ice cream! :tongue
i love cookie dough too, but i can only stomach so much at a time.

ya he usually makes himself slightly "ill" when he does it! :lol I con't handle too much at once ir I get an upset tummy so I'm always saying to him when I'm making cookies to leave my dough alone! But he doesn't listen... oh well!
