Kellie_MO5 11-17-2006, 03:13 AM We're gonna eat at the church with the IL's and some of the other families that wouldn't otherwise have anyone to spend the day with, and after dinner we're going to my parents house to hang for a bit Lynette 11-17-2006, 03:36 AM We are having dinner over at my FIL's here in RP for us, my FIL and his girlfriend, my mom and aunt. We are doing it at his house because his gf is afraid of dogs but is not much of a cook so I will go over there to put the turkey in the oven, come home and do the rest and then bring it over to his place. We are having the usual: turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes and gravy (think I will tweak them though and do like garlic potatoes or something), some sort of salad, cranberry sauce (we like the jellied stuff that comes out in the shape of the can, we think it is funny :D), and my FIL requested this jello salad my MIL used to make so I have to find her recipe for that. Salina requested some sort of casserole so I might look for something to add, not sure yet. I was going to make this pumpkin cheesecake that I found a recipe for but apparently my aunt and FIL's gf want to bring desserts so that got scratched...much to Salina's dismay. It is good that I am cooking because Brian likes how I make things and if we went out or someone else was cooking he always asks for me to do Thanksgiving part 2 the next day! I'll be your sampler :lol. Myabe Elias really doesn't have a dairy issue. His poops are still green and I have been eating more veggies lately... I could make super extra sure to be dairy free before hand even :lol Lynette 11-17-2006, 07:57 AM I'll be your sampler :lol. Myabe Elias really doesn't have a dairy issue. His poops are still green and I have been eating more veggies lately... I could make super extra sure to be dairy free before hand even :lol LOL! I haven't ever made it before so I dunno if I would mess it up since it looks kind of complicated (a regular layer, pumpkin cheesecake layer, and chocolate cheesecaker layer and a chocolate kind of ganache on top) so not really something I would make "just because" and poor Salina was drooling over the picture only to find out that two of the desserts that are coming are store bought. My3sonsplus1 11-17-2006, 08:12 AM not even different homemade treats :( yucko! Well hopefully they won't end up being those cheapy boxed holiday teheme sugar cookies from the bakery. LMS 11-17-2006, 08:38 AM well, jr wants a "traditional thanksgiving dinner" but i hardly see the point when brendan will eat like a slice of meat and that's it. So i'm trying to find a place where i can buy the little pre-cooked meals. meeg124 11-17-2006, 08:59 AM Our plan is to go out for dinner on Thanksgiving, because I have to be at work at 3 pm. But I'm thinking about making an executive decision and cooking Thanksgiving dinner the night before and then have left over's on Thanksgiving. It's not a holiday to me, if I don't get certain things like Waldorf salad and cranberry from the can! What is cranberry without those ridges? lol If anybody is interested I have a great pumpkin toffee cheesecake recipe that is pretty easy to make and everyone loves. Even people who don't like pumpkin. Megan daisydoc 11-17-2006, 11:07 AM we're driving 15 hrs to Idaho to hang our my my inlaws! :( I won't get to make my desserts this year! I ALWAYS make pumpkin pie and apple pies... that's my thing and my family loves it. Now they're missing out on it and I don't even get to make them at James' grandparents b/c it would "steal the spotlight" from his grandma. so we'll see.... should be interesting. Mom of 2 11-17-2006, 11:36 AM Anna: What part of Idaho are you going to? We always stop in Winnamucca(Hope that is spelled right) for Gas and there is a MCDonalds with a big indoor playground that we always let Patty run around in and play for like 30 minutes before we get back into the car. Hope you all have a safe drive and a wonderful holiday. Kate Mom to Patty and Tyler Mom of 2 11-17-2006, 11:38 AM I wanted to cook this year, but Ken has to work at night, so we are going to be going out this year. I plan to cook a few days before though,so I can include the personal favorites that you may not get by going out. Kate Mom to Patty and Tyler daisydoc 11-17-2006, 02:12 PM Kate: We're going to Post Falls which is just outside Ceur D Laigne (I know that's not spelled right! :lol) So we won't go into NV at all. We use to stop in Winnemucca when we drove to Colorado... while I was going to College in Boulder. But for this trip the shortest way is up I-5 to Klammath... and then onto 97 to Bend, OR... then onto some obscure Rd to get to The Dalles, then 395 to Spokane.(I' msure I left a few places/interstates out but that's all from memory... and I've only been there once when I was 12... but I have been reading the directions I printed off MapQuest like once a day so I'm not always having to refer to the Map to make sure we're in the right place.) So it'll be an interesting trip. We're going to invest in a portable DVD player for the trip so that I can save what little sanity I have left! :D Mom of 2 11-17-2006, 02:14 PM Good Idea with the DVD player. Kate Mom to Patty and Tyler becky 11-17-2006, 02:19 PM well my plans changed all of a sudden today. Last night our smoked turkey arrived from Texas through UPS so we had thanksgiving dinner early. It was great. We didnt have any real plans for thanksgiving and planned on just hanging out at home and nibbling all day. As of 11am this morning however i was informed by my dear husband that we are now driving down to LA.:banana part of me is doing the happy dance cuz i get to see my family but then i'm dreading the drive. I'm not sure how victor is going to handle having to stop for me every hour to hour and a half so i can stretch and walk around. oh the joys of beinging pregnant. Lynette 11-17-2006, 02:24 PM Oh but that sounds cool Becky that you get to go see your family!!! He will deal :) becky 11-17-2006, 02:30 PM Victor has been getting really home sick for his family lately. I wonder if this has anything to do with that he is the youngest of 6 kids and has a large family to miss. My folks have been here 4 times since we moved and his folks only came up once and that was jsut a few months after we moved. Its been a year since he has seen anyone so i think that is way he is pushing for us to go. personally i dont care if i see his folks or not but i'm definately excited to see my folks and maybe my brother too :) daisydoc 11-17-2006, 02:40 PM Talk about last minute! :lol That's great though Becky! I hope you guys have a safe trip and a great time! :thumb Lynette 11-17-2006, 04:21 PM we're driving 15 hrs to Idaho to hang our my my inlaws! Thanksgiving was Brian's mom's favorite holiday I think because every year she got to be the star. For years she would say she is too sick, I would volunteer to help, she would accept and we would agree on who is making what, and then the day of like 5 more dishes appeared. For years she would make sweet potatoes because somehow she got the impression Brian liked them which he doesn't and I told her on a number of occasions but she didn't believe me because he wouldn't tell her. So the last time she made them they were sitting on the table untouched after he was done eating so I said, "Brian, you better eat those sweet potatoes! Your mom went through all that trouble to make them for you because you like them so much!" He looked at me like I was nuts and said, "Oh, I forgot! I am already so full, we will have to take them home." "Oh no, they don't keep very well, you will have to eat them now!" So he put a tablespoon on his plate but Salina had caught on and started piling his plate high and after the first bite he finally fessed up and admitted he didn't like sweet potatoes :D daisydoc 11-17-2006, 06:40 PM LMAO!!!! :biglaugh That's a fabulous story Lynette! I love it! :tongue Jennie 11-17-2006, 06:53 PM We're going out (http://htnet.com), hoorah! It always feels kind of lonely, just the three of us, when I'm used to the big bashes back in Michigan. Plus we've got a small fridge, and I hate to cook all the stuff I want just for me and two very picky eaters. KaisaG 11-17-2006, 07:52 PM We're going to Emanuel's aunt's house (also Colleen's MIL-to-be!). She is SUCH a fabulous cook- I love having those giant family get togethers for holidays... especially when I have an excuse to gorge myself Megan-- I'd LOVE your recipe! Mom of 2 11-17-2006, 08:13 PM Have a safe trip Becky. Kate Mom to Patty and Tyler |
