didn't watch it either. I was at the dentist all morning with Asher while he was getting cavities filled and a tooth extracted because it abcessed between our initial appt date and the cavity apt. :(

I liked the speech so much more after I read it online. I am just so darn happy that we now have a commander in chief who respects science and scientists. :woohoo

I said inspiring! He has such a claming voince, I love hearing him talk and am so excited to see what he will do from here.

I hate hearing people say they are afraid he is going to disappoint us cause he can't do everything he wants to do. I think any progress he can make to fix even one thing Bush screwed up would be amazing.

Inspiring! I watched it this evening on YouTube. C-Span has the full 20 minutes including the oath of office and the speech: http://www.youtube.com/user/CSPAN

DH watched with me and he never shows any interest in politics!

I was struck by a few things in his speech:
* the use of inclusive language, i.e. "forebearers" instead of "forefathers" (to include our "foremothers")
* and mentioning a quote from "scripture" instead of "Bible" (to include the Torah and Koran)
* I also picked up on his mention of "science in its proper place"
* he didn't end any sentences with a preposition
* Near the end he speaks about "Truths" and it seems like an echo on the opening to the Declaration of Independence, "We hold these Truths to be self-evident"
* in a more direct reference to the Declaration, and again being inclusive, he says "All are equal..." leaving out the "men" part.

I found this just two nights ago, the A&E Biography done on Obama just a couple of years ago:

However when (*ahem* IF *cough*) he does screw up, you know it will be made to look like it is somehow Bush's fault, anyway
