This was my first attempt at brining a turkey and it was the *best* turkey ever! Even the leftover white meat isn't all dry and you could eat it without drowning it in gravy or cranbery to help choke it down. I dunno why I didn't do it before but if you are making a turkey for Christmas, ya gotta try this!

To brine? You soak it for 8-24 hours. To cook, it was a 21lb bird so about 5 hours.

Pardon me for being slow... but you just soaked it in saltwater??? Isn't that what brine means?

Yeah, I think why they say "brine" rather than "saltwater" has to do with how much salt per gallon or something?? But yeah, basically that is what it is (kosher salt, not table salt) and made a HUGE difference! Something about the salt absorbing so it retains the water and doesn't dry out?

wow these are all new to me. I have only made a turkey the old fashioned way and it was a hit and miss everytime. Now we just get our smoked turkey from Texas so we dont do anything more than opne the box and eat it.

Brining does make the turkey super moist but takes some planning. It's hard for me to be that organized :)

LOL! I am not organized at all, I just bought a fresh turkey rather than frozen so I didn't have to think so much :D
