We didn't want to cook a big dinner for just us -- but we still wanted the big dinner :) -- so I searched high and low for a friendly, nice place with decent reviews that didn't cost $80 a plate.

After a month of searching the internet and asking around, I found the Hilltop Cafe (http://htnet.com) in Novato. We've had a few Thanksgivings in restaurants, what with us being 2,000 miles away from all our friends and family, and I can honestly say that this time was the best experience of them all!

For about $30, you got your choice of turkey, ham, salmon, pork, prime rib, or vegetarian, including salad, dessert, and all the trimmings. Kids ate for $13 (choice of ham or turkey). It was all simple, all good. I had the pumpkin bread pudding with ice cream and caramel sauce, and it was just to die for. Place was packed to the limit the whole time, and for good reason!

It's very easily accessible from 101. And it really is on top of a tall hill, and we got a windowside table, so the views at dusk were nice. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating, and we weren't rushed through dinner even a tiny bit. They brought the bub a balloon, so he was happy with the experience :)

We'll definitely be going back again for non-holiday dinners.

Glad you enjoyed the Hilltop Cafe.
I've eatten there a few times when I was working in Novato.
Very good food!
I've also heard that for Valentine's day, they are booked a few years in advance. They apparently have a special table for getting engaged.

My dh's grandparents used to live in Novato before his grandpa passed away and his family used to frequent that restaurant quite often. They have great food and a beautiful view!
