View Full Version : Changes thusfar
So far we have 2 cool new changes:
1.) The multi-quote feature!
If you want to quote multiple posts in one reply, simply press the "Q+" button on the first quotes, and the "QUOTE" button (like you used to) on the last post. It will quote all selected posts in your reply :) If you clicked the "Q+" on the wrong post, simply click it again (it will now be a "Q-") to remove that from your list of posts to quote.
The multiquote function ONLY works within one thread (ie. you can't quote a post from the "does santa wrap gifts" thread in the "are you opening a gift on christmas eve" thread)
and 2.) wheny ou quote a post, there is now a pink button with an arrow in it IN the quote.. if you click that, it will take you back to the original post of that quote (so if it's a partial quote, you can view the entire post)
The new Infraction Program is also set up now.
Here's how this works:
For each infraction you get, it's 1 point.
Infractions are for things like Harrassing other members, Spamming the board, Violating specific important rules, etc. If a Senior member aquires 25 points, their senior membership will be revoked.
Once a member reaches 100 points, they are banned.
I don't think any of these things will really need to be used, but they are here for specific cases. Some of you may remember a month or so ago when some chick came on here posting about her fuzzy slippers and how she doesn't wear a seatbelt? (I know Michelle remembers, LOL!) Fake registrations such as that one receive a 100 point infraction, which is an automatic permanent ban. Those are really the situations when something like this is needed. Id on't forsee these being issues with any of our current members, but i felt the need to let everyone know how they work.
As I said a few weeks ago, there are some changes coming in the signatures.
Since many of the siggys are taking up more room than the posts they are attached to, they are now limited to 3lines and no graphics (that means no tickers)
HOWEVER, with this new upgrade, you are able to upload something called a "signature image".
You can do this through your USER CP Edit Signature page. You upload it there, after it's uploaded, click on "insert signature image" (may be worded a lil different than that) and it'll put it into your sig. It can be 100pixels high and 500pixels wide. it does not HAVE to be those dimensions, those are just the max size they can be. I have one in my signature as an example.
I will soon be posting directions on how to make a signature image if you aren't sure how to do one yourself :)
any signatures that don't fit the 3 lines policy will be pruned without notice to fit the 3 line limit, then you can edit them from there.
If you have *any* questions on how it works, please let me know.
I knwo the previous rules on signature lengths were not closely followed or enforced, which is why this new change is going into effect.
Thanks everyone!
Sorry to serial post, but I'm looking at all the new features and sorting them out one by one.
Also, with this you can not use HTML. You are not able to add images using HTML or BB code (the " [ img ] " codes (without spaces)) and if you want to make a link in your sig, you have to use bb code. This prevents a ton of images from being uploaded (which follows the "use the signature image function" post from before) and still allows you to link to things like your personal websites.
haha, i hope everyone is reading these. I feel like i'm posting to myself. :lol

Jackie did you pull that post after it was made? I was kind of surprised no one responded. I didn't remember the slipper part but the fact she didn't use seatbelts or child car seats and never would because she felt it was a zillion times safer to be able to escape after a crash.

Actually, I have been really bad about reading the newbie intros lately because a lot seem to do the intro and then never post again so that could be why I missed it :bag

okay... so I tried to fix my signature to take out the ticker links and now I'm having issues b/c it's saying that it's too long and I havce like no info in it. It's using things like font, spacing and color as part of my three lines. Is it suppose to be doing that?

It wasn't an intro. it was a response to one of the car seat threads. That is why it was especially weird to me, I remember thinking "didn't we finish this thread a full week or more ago?!

I'm reading and I think/hope I get it all! I didn't know that lady was a fake registration... I was just SO mad when I read her post that I didn't think it warranted comment. I figured everyone else just felt the same way!
she posted in teh carseat thread AND an intro.
she was talking all kinds of jibberish about how women are smart and should drive in slippers and not wear seatbelts and we should teach out kids to wear cool old lady slippers. She was insane. (the email address registered made me think it was a guy)
I emailed them saying that their account and IP address had been banned for life and if they tried to rejoin under a different IP i'd contact their internet service procider and let them know they were spamming and harrassing people online.
HOW TO MAKE A SIGNATURE IMAGE IN PHOTOSHOP
1.) file>new
set your canvas dimensions at 100px high and 500 px wide.
2.) Open the photos that you want on the signature image
3.) resize all of your images to 100 pixels high. (do this by going to image>image size and typing in 100 next to the height pixel selection)
4.) starting with one image, select all (ctrl A) and copy (ctrl c) then go back to you 100x500 canvas. and paste (ctrl V) your photo into that document. You can then drag it around to whatever position you want.
Do this with EACH image until they are all on your 100x500 document in the positions you want.
If your images don't fill up the full length of the "canvas" but you are done, you can use your Eliptical Marquee tool to select the part of the image you want to keep (you may want to leave a small border around the images) and select image>crop. This will get rid of the ends of the image to give you the size/shape you want.
save and upload! You're done!

I didn't see anything about "when you edit a post." Do you want us to put a reason or is it optional? I just edited one for grammar reasons and I left it blank... That's the only reason I saw the "Reason for editing" field and I thought about all of this after the fact.
HOW TO MAKE A SIGNATURE IMAGE IN PAINT
(all PCs have paint already installed.. go to START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES to find it)
when you open it, you will have a white screen. Click IMAGE>ATTRIBUTES and check the little "Pixels" circle.set it to 500 wide and 100 tall
From here, you will need to go BACK to start>programs>Accessories and reopen a SECOND window of Paint in order to open an image. You'll either need to open one window of paint for each image, or only open one image at a time.
This is kind of a PITA, so you'll go to your 2nd window/image. Go to image>attributes and click on pixels. Look at the height pixel # and figure out what % of that number is 100 pixels. ( the example we will use is: if it's 400 pixels high, 100 pixels would be 25%)
go to image>stretch/skew and type in 25% (going by our example) in the height and width windows. This will make the image tiny.
Ctrl A (select all), Ctrl C (copy)
hop back to your window with the 100x500 "canvas"
CTRL V - Paste
you can move that image whereever you want.
Do this with each image until you have your canvas full.
I don't use paint like EVER, so i hope these directions make sense.

that actually has been there all along. and it's totally optional :)
I rarely ever fill it out
just so everyone knows, any signatures that aren't shortened within the 3 line limit by the end of the weekend will be pruned :)
If anyone needs help making a sig image, PM me. I can do a few this weekend

i have a question- how do you pick one line out of a post to quote?
you quote the whole post, then delete what parts you don't want to quote once you are in the actual reply screen

:bag I'm a moron!
Okay, here's another cool change that may interest those of you who have businesses.
You can now (in liu of, or in addition to) purchasing an ad on the right side of the forum, sponsor a forum!
For instance, you'll see Reitz Photography next to the photo album. That is a text link of the sponsor of the forum
You can also add a image. I'll put one up here soon so you can compare.
If anyone is interested in sponsoring a forum (this may be pretty cool to find a forum that is related to you, like maybe a doula could do the pregnancy/childbirth forum, or marisa could do the financial concerns forum, etc) let me know and I'll put up the pricing page.

ooh that is a cool feature Jackie :)
i changed it to a banner ad, so you can see that.
there will also be the option of including a large banner in the forum itself (similar to the ebeanstalk ad)
