Okay, guys... it's time to vote on what to do with the money from the cookie fundraiser! We have just over $200 to spend.

Here are some ideas, be sure to shoot out more and we'll make a poll

Charities/Donations
Contests/Prizes on the site (like the gingerbread contest)
We can get a permanent license for our vBulletin software so we don't have to pay every year
we can get the brandless version of vBulletin that doesn't have their logo on the top

throw out some more ideas :)

I'm all for donating BUT since it was touch and go for a bit this year renewing with vBulletin I would say pay for the permanent license so that won't be a concern anymore. That way we can continue to support one another and still be able to work as a group to put donations together in the future.

i like the perminent license idea cuz inthe long run it will save you money and we could later use extra money to donate to charities and stuff. This just seems like a better option for the long term IMO

here's a frame of reference for you:

donating could be any amount of $

the permanent license would be $160.00
once we get the permanent license, we'll still hafta pay $30 a year to get upgrades on the software (we were previously paying $85.00 a year)

Taking the vbulletin logo off the page would cost us an additional $120.00 (one time)

I say get the permanent license. With as many people as we have coming up with $30.00 for upgrades every year shouldn't be an issue. If we continue to do fundraisers we could come up with the extra money to take the logo off the top of the page.

Or, I had another idea...

We could pay for the permanent license, then take what's left and donate it to a charity. :)

Here are my questions...
It would take 3 years to realize the full benefit of the permanent license ($55/yr savings)
When is the next renewal date?
What is the regular income from the site and do you see it (income) growing in the future?
How long would it take to "save" the amount needed vs. the fundraiser?
Could we figure out another fundraiser?
Is it worth $120 to remove the vBulletin logo?

I only bring these up because the holidays always remind me that I want to do more for others... which I tend to forget in the course of regular life. I'm inclined to find a charity that caters to kids... giving tree etc. JMO Then we can work on raising the $$ for the software next.

And now reading your other post, Jackie, we should definately send some $$ to the family.

I say all to charities. One of my coworkers (that brought me dinner, came to work baby shower, etc) lost everything in a fire last night... So I'm in more of a "reaching out to help" kind of mood.
I'd say who cares about the V-Bulletin logo... it doesn't bother me.

I say get the permanent license at $160, and donate the rest ($40) to charity (The Giving Tree, etc.).

Yeah, why spend the money on that if we don't need to?

Sorry, guys. we had to take B to the doctor real quick... let me catch up:

The next renewal is not for almost another FULL YEAR ( we renewed in October) so we'd essentially be out the 80$ we just spent to renew for another year. (they don't prorate)
The regular income is nominal, hardly anything at all. I'd say maybe 200ish a year after we pay for the license, and that has been going towards food for the picnic, decorations for cookies, cookie dough, prizes for the halloween contest and a chunk to the donations for Kate from lastmonth.
We could easily do another cookie fundraiser next year with Michelle (it was such a success this time that i wouldn't think twice about doing it again next year) to pay for the license.
PERSONALLY, I dont' think it's worth $120 to remove the logo. Maybe someday, when we have more members, but as of right now i don't see *that* as a priority.

Kaisa: If we choose to donate to charities, please PM me their information. I'd love to send them something for Christmas from us. (do they celebrate Christmas or another holiday?)

I didn't do anything to help make money here, but I think donating would be good. I don't care about the logo and if you get a permanent license, you should do it when it is time to renew again in October. I would also love to do other fund raisers like a big yard sale or bake sale to make more money to donate. I guess the main problem would be deciding which organization to donate to :)

I would also like to do more fundraisers.

What i'd *really* like to do is to host a "fair" ... like the RPCMCboutique night. Rent out a big space, have one price form SCM members to get tables for businesses, and one price for the other booths

That would be easy enough to do Jackie. We could easily do that with a little coordination and group effort!

Since we just renewed then you're right... doesn't make sense to pay for the permanent license right now. I also could care less about the vBulletin logo... I hardly even notice it!

Also... anytime anyone wants to do a Fundraiser with Cookie Lee just let me know! ;)

I'd say donate it especially if they won't prorate but I dunno if you want to give it all away at once in case another good cause comes up in between fundrasiers?

i personally dont care about the logo either. If there is a way to at least set some money aside for the perminent licnese later that is fine...not saying to put it all side though cuz we will likely make up the difference before oct. And yes, definately to charity

Okay guys... The situation with Brandon has come a little further (see the original thread about that for an update in a second)
and they are takign the $$ donations to them tomorrow, so i went ahead and sent them $50. It was enough to help, but not enough to really upt us in a bind if we choose a charity for christmas. Hope that's okay with everyone, but i had to act quickly. :)

If you guys feel like you want to donate more, let me know... I just didn't feel comfortable donating more than that without okaying it with everyone else, since I didn't raise that money on my own ;)

I say give it all to them... It's a good cause.

I agree with Kaisa - send Brandon's family all of the money. This is a family that is truly in need of all kinds of support.

i didnt contribute to the SCM fund raiser so i'm not exactly in the place to say what to do with it but that said, i agree with kaisa and Megan.

I agree that we should look to future fundraisers, closer to October of next year to pay for the licensing. For now lets donate to charity, as well as in the future!

Kaisa, did your co-worker lose their home too? Do they have kids? Do they need anything?

As far as Kate (I think that's who you are talking about Michelle?) We are sending them $200 in the mail today actually (It was delayed b/c I had to transfer all the donations from paypal to checking so I could write a check to them)

Tina: I talked to Kaisa about that and she said there was been a *huge* outpouring for them and that at this time there is nothing else they need.

I'd like to try to help Melissa and her boys as much as possible, but at the same time, I want to have a cushion incase (God forbid) something ever happened to someone here.. kwim? Don't want to bite off my nose in spite of my face

okay, guys. I'm sending another 75$ to them tonight to drop off for them tomorrow.
They bought her some comfy pjs to wear at the hospital (since she didn't bring any clothes and refuses to leave Brandon's side), and got her an iPod as a christmas gift with speakers. They set up 2 playlists.. one for Melissa as a distraction while BRandon is in surgery, and one of kids songs for Brandon and Aiden :)
Then they have the extra $$ to go towards parking passes, food, etc.

very cool! I'm glad they were able to get her some of the things she really wanted/needed to help her get thru this! Glad we could help with that! :)

I guess I should explain the iPod... she made a comment earlier this season that that was the only thing she really wanted for Christmas, so it was kind of a 2fold gift. What she wanted, and helpful for passing hours in the hospital
