For the past month or so my skin has just been terrible, I have been breaking out like a freaking teenager and it is making me nuts! Things that used to work aren't and although I would expect something like this around the holidays if I was eating a bunch of junk, I really haven't been. Any suggestions on what works for you? I was thinking I might have to breakdown and buy some Proactiv but not sure if I can buy that in stores? I seem to remember it being expensive too?

personally, Proactive did nothing by dry the heck out of my sin - until i was pregnant when it worked like a charm - so i wouldn't invest the money in that. I'm sure I still have *some* left over from when i was pg if you want to try it?

my FAVORITE it the microdermabrasion set from Mary Kay. it's incredible. My skin has never been so soft and clear as it is when i use that (i just use samples when i get them, b/c I don't have a mary kay lady :( )

If you opt to go with the Mary Kay stuff a friend from my Wed playgroup is a Mary Kay lady. She lives in Rohnert Park. I can get you her email if you like.

I've never had much luck with Mary Kay because I have VERY sensitive skin... and they tend to use a lot of perfumes in their product. My MIL once bought some of their "sensitive skin" stuff and broke out so bad that her rash scabbed.
You can buy Proactiv in the mall at one of those little kiosks. I personally have never tried it, but my SIL uses it when her skin breaks out and she has beautiful skin.
I use a line called Dermologica for my face. It's pricey though- $42 for a 16.9oz bottle of face wash. You can only get it in salons.

Yeh, Proactive is expensive.
But, I only use it once and awhile.
I mainly use soap and water.
I've also been using Bare Essenusals make-up which seems to help, since it doesn't clog pores.
Birth control cleared me up for the longest time, but then I also gained weight with it, so I'm no longer using it.
I love the Mary Kay hand cream set, my hands feel so smooth! Maybe I should try the face cleaning too! I do use the Mary Kay eye make-up remover. Love it! My Mary-Kay lady is in Windsor, but works in R.P.

Jackie- that is part of my problem, I am using a product now which always worked before and now it isn't for some reason!

I might have to check out Mary Kay, I have a *thing* about perfumy smells though, is it stinky?

no, it doesn't smell at all. I have hyper sensitive skin.
I have allergic reactions to all jewelry that isn't gold (even stainless steel and sterling silver) and even FREE laundry detergents. :( It's a HUGE pita.
Skin irritations are big for me, and they run in my family.
My face is SUPER tempermental. Everything that is for sensitive or dry skin dries me out completely and i get super flakey.
I use Neutrogena methol stuff that my best friend used to use, but i can only use it every few days or i dry right out.
Proactive dries me out and irritates the heck out of my skin (while not doing a darn thing for the zits, go figure).
The marykay stuff i love b/c my skin stays VERY hydrated and soft, but it also does WONDERS for the breakouts

my mom sells MK and I can almost guarantee she'd get it to you near or at cost as she is trying to lighten her load. Not sure her sample status... but I can ask if anyone is interested.

Lisa: Ask her how much she's willing to sell it for b/c i've been dying to get my hands on some but i'm having a hard time coughing up $55 on skin care stuff. (stupid, I know. I can drop $200 on makeup from MAC but the stuff i use to clean it off with i'm cheap on. LOL)

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I have been lucky and found that the facial clothes (the kind that you add water and they have the cleanser in them and they also exfoliate) from Dove or Olay are all i need to keep from breaking out. On those rare occasions i run out and have to go without for a few days, my skin breaks out really bad even when i use the cleanser and wash cloth.

For out right breakouts though, I do use either Clinque or EsteLauder blismish clearifier where use just put a drop of the liquid on the blemish and it gets rid of it in a day or two.

I have really sensative skin which is the main reason why i dont wear makeup. That and I jsut dont like it

I wear makeup every day and I know that that *really* contributes to my breakouts, but I just can't not wear it. I look like hell warmed over with no makeup on.

Maybe one day I'll have the guts and I'll take a before makeup pic and an after makeup pic.

I wouldn't trust it if you did, you would probably Photoshop a pic of Shrek on your head for the "Before" shot or something <g>

I used to at least wear eyemakeup every day but now if it is the weekend, I just don't care. If I scare a stranger, oh well! LOL! Luckily Salina is not at the age yet where she is begging me to go change and put on some makeup before being seen in public with her :D

Its funny, with Salina my skin was like glass and my hair grew like crazy but not with Alaina, I broke out and then I lost some hair when she was born.

So weird how different pregnancies do different things to you...

You Ladies are SOOO crazy I love it! I'm sitting here at work laughing out loud to myself while sitting at my desk.

My MILs salon has a fabulous esthetician that I've had facials from before. They are SO relaxing they make you fall asleep. I LOVE them SOOO much - but I don't get them that often cuz they cost about the same as a massage :(
