Sonoma County 11th Annual Photography Contest for Positive Images of Breastfeeding

To celebrate World Breastfeeding Week, August 1-7, 2009 , the Sonoma County Department of Health Services is sponsoring the 11th annual "Positive Images of Breastfeeding" photography contest.

The categories for this year's contest are:

* Breastfeeding in a Public Area
* Breastfeeding for the Joy of it

The mother featured in each of the two categories will receive $100 from the Sonoma County Breastfeeding Coalition.

Entries must be submitted as a 4" by 6" photograph or a digital photo with high resolution - at least 1600x1200 (2 megapixels) - *.jpg or *.tif format on a disk, and must be received by 5:00 p.m. on July 24, 2009 .

Awards will be announced on August 5, 2009. Winning photos will be featured at the August 5th Wednesday Night Market!

I am kind of surprised they have the $ for this. Not that $200 is going to keep an employee from getting laid off but this does seem like a "luxury" to me... :throwtomatoes... yeah I have not grown comfy enough that my dh will be jobless at months end yet I see lots of waste in the budget...

Could be that it's money that's been donated for this specifically. And I haven't read the rules, but maybe part of the contest is agreeing to let them use your photo in the future, in which case that's not much money for the rights to it.

Yes the photos are used to make the calenders they print up (though technically those are "fluff" too IMO) and other theoretical promo materials. The contest is co-sponsored by the Sonoma County Department of Health Services and the Sonoma County Breastfeeding Coalition. My husband works for the DHS, in the acct. dept, so he occassionally tells me the mirad things they pay for, things I think are excessive... it is all complex because a lot of stuff is paid for by a % of federal funds but it still crosses my mind as to whether the contest and costs of printing the thousands of calenders they do each year is a good use of money when they are laying people off. Anywho... if they are running it by all means people submit something :) I am just personally freaking out inside is all...

We should come up with something cool of both of us. Like at dinner or something, okay maybe not that, but I am sure there is something. Maybe we could do even a group thing....get about 20 mommies.
