I got this flyer from a friend/co-worker at work. I thought that it might be a nice thing for all of us to do. I thought it might even be fun to turn into a playdate - where we could have the kids make the cards. Let me know if that sounds good. I could host if we kept it small- since I live in an apt.
Here's the flyer:
Here is one simple way to let a soldier know that they have not been forgotten. Remember, one card – one thought – can make a difference in a day in the life of a solider.
Do you have time to send just one Valentine’s Day Car or letter to a soldier that is serving overseas? Do you have children who would like to make a card for a soldier to arrive by Valentine’s Day? Please just take 5 minutes, one stamp and a piece of paper to send your wishes to a U.S. soldier.
This Valentine’s Day Card Drive is being organized, with the help of friends, schools and businesses in Northern Nevada as well as friends from across the U.S. The same group of folks that sent over 2,000 holiday gift bags to the soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq in previous years.
Please send your Valentines Day card or letter directly to:
U.S. Solider Valentine’s Day Card
c/o Christine Faria
8721 Rainbow Trout Ct
Reno, NV 89523
These cards will be mailed to U.S. troops overseas – you just need to get your letters to the above address no later than January 20.
If you would like to include a small box of hard candy (i.e. Sweethearts Conversation Hearts) inside of your envelope – that would be great (just make sure to put on correct postage). Please no chocolate.
If you have multiple cards that you are sending (the more the better), you can send in one larger envelope or box, with the cards inside. The larger envelope will be opened and the individual cards sent separately and unopened. Know that if you include your return address then the soldier will have the opportunity to write to you.
If you are in the Reno area and have a class or club that can make cards, a box will be on my porch so you can drop them off (or call me if you can’t drop off). Please get your kids involved – soldiers truly appreciate letters and homemade cards from the kids. Our goal is

Remember, one card – one thought, can make a difference in a day in the life of a solider. We guarantee that these letters will be in the hands of a U.S. soldier overseas.
If you or your company would like to donate a few bucks or actual stamps for shipping (or for the purchase of hard candy to go with every letter) – please send in a separate envelope marked “for postage” (as individual envelopes/cards for the U.S. Solider will not be opened but sent directly to the troops). Please make checks out to Chris Faria with “Card Drive” in the memo field. As with the Gift Bags for the Troops Campaigns, any funds collected go directly to this campaign.
Special thanks to Lt. Col Vincent Alcazar, Commander, 479th Operations Support Squadron, Moody Air Force Base for distribution coordination. Vince and his family are former residents of Reno, Nevada. Our goal is at least 1,500 letters, so thank you in advance for your time and your stamp. We’ll do the rest. For updates on this project, please email cjfaria@sbcglobal.net.
