We have a lot of bananas, and I'd love to make some banana bread but our oven doesn't work... we do, however, have a toaster oven... can you make banana bread in a toaster oven?

KaisaG 07-29-2009, 04:10 PM I've cooked other baked stuff in there, so I don't know why not. My DCP makes muffins in hers for the kids all the time. Kellie_MO5 07-29-2009, 04:14 PM perhaps I should get some mini trays and stuff that would fit in mine, huh? :bag I've had it for a while (got it 2nd hand) but have never actually *used* it... but since my oven does not work (and has not for almost a full year now) I guess I should look into using it once in a while... brookiesmom 07-29-2009, 04:16 PM I'm not sure but I dont see why not. And oh man I would just die without an oven. I use mine pretty much daily! Leigh 07-31-2009, 10:09 AM YES, from what I understand toaster ovens are OVENS. However, if you are using it like an oven, running at 400* for an hour (for example) I would monitor it VERY carefully! Like a BBQ, they emit incredible amounts of heat around them. For example, I wouldn't run it on the countertop under the cabinets. It could put out enough heat rising off of it to catch the cabinets on fire! It could even emit enough heat to ignite (or melt) the counter! Place it somewhere open and shielded, like on top of the (cool) stove. Just my two cents! Better paranoid than sorry! Enjoy your bread! :) Do you make it with "just" bananas, or throw in things like nuts and raisins too? . surmick 07-31-2009, 10:32 AM I bought two mini cupcake pans from Sur La Table and use them all the time in my toaster oven. We have a super small one so it does not take up much room or give off a lot of heat. Kellie_MO5 07-31-2009, 10:48 AM well, I did it! I just used bananas, flour, splenda (because I forgot we're out of sugar :() baking soda and a pinch of salt... 350* for 50 min and it came out great! I'm so excited! surmick 07-31-2009, 10:51 AM Wonderful!!!! CrystalD 07-31-2009, 01:23 PM This is interesting because I would have never thought to do this. Good info! surmick 07-31-2009, 01:36 PM The funny thing is that the one thing I don't cook in my toaster oven is toast. |
