View Full Version : New game at the fair-The Baby Toss!!! surmick 08-03-2009, 12:42 PM http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid30062553001?bctid=31399132001 wyattsmama 08-03-2009, 12:43 PM omg how is that fun? i could only watch like 20 seconds of it. stephaniemsw 08-03-2009, 12:50 PM WTH???? I didn't have sound so I don;t know what the explanation is, but it looks like pure idiocy to me. What could be more terrifyling for a baby than to be dropped purposely by an adult? Not to mention the risks for physical damage. surmick 08-03-2009, 12:56 PM For what I understand it is a tradition dating back to hundreds of years ago and they say that a child has never been hurt doing it. I think that if there was not so much loud noise during it and that the kids were smiled at and it was done more positively that the kids would probably not freak out as much. I know Amelia loves getting thrown in the air and stuff and probably would be more freaked out by the action surrounding it and not the action itself. I am not saying that I would do that to Amelia though. Leigh 08-03-2009, 01:34 PM Without any context to that video, I just don't know what to think. :confused . surmick 08-03-2009, 01:45 PM http://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=10588423 erin anne 08-03-2009, 01:49 PM How terrifying for those babies! you can clearly hear one of them shrieking on fear. erin anne 08-03-2009, 01:56 PM Ugh, I made the mistake of watching some of the related videos from that link, I feel sick :( such cruelty to children out there :mecry surmick 08-03-2009, 01:56 PM How terrifying for those babies! you can clearly hear one of them shrieking on fear. I did not watch that much of it, oh dear...:bag stephaniemsw 08-03-2009, 02:24 PM For what I understand it is a tradition dating back to hundreds of years ago and they say that a child has never been hurt doing it. I think there's a HUGE difference between a loving parent throwing a kid in the air a little (where the kid clearly knows the parent will catch them), and a child being dropped from the roof of a building surrounded by hundreds of strangers. The fact that it has been done for hundreds of years doesn't justify it to me. To be extreme, genital mutilation is also a cultural practice that has been done for generations- that doesn't make it any less harmful to the poor victims. Although the article says there have been no reported injuries, I believe that that terrifying experience causes psychological harm and is abusive. Leigh 08-03-2009, 02:29 PM http://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=10588423 Thank you! . becky 08-03-2009, 02:38 PM OMG that is crazy. some of the babies had no clue what was happening but others clearly were screaming out of terror :( surmick 08-03-2009, 02:39 PM I think there's a HUGE difference between a loving parent throwing a kid in the air a little (where the kid clearly knows the parent will catch them), and a child being dropped from the roof of a building surrounded by hundreds of strangers. I do understand that there is a difference between the two and that was what I tried to explain was that it is different. As I said I would never let Amelia be a part of something like that. I do have to add that on Sunday at the Fair, I saw many parents put their kids on rides and then the kid would start screaming and begging to get off. Sometimes the parents would leave them and sometimes they would not. TaivensMama 08-03-2009, 02:42 PM how terrible stephaniemsw 08-03-2009, 02:52 PM I do have to add that on Sunday at the Fair, I saw many parents put their kids on rides and then the kid would start screaming and begging to get off.
