I know. I was shocked to when I heard about it. I delievered both of my kids at Sutter.

I delivered there too and I LOVE them. My dh was born there! How can they close???!! My friend that is TTC is SO sad because she wanted to deliver there when she gets pg.

This is going to creat a huge void in healthcare in Sonoma county. I think the closest level II NICU will now be in San Francisco, so any babies with complications will probably have to be transferred out of county, if mom isn't forced to deliver at a hospital far away from home. Memorial is planning up to 80 more beds, but Sutter has over 200 beds and both hospitals are often on full and have to divert patients to other hospitals. I truly hope that another organization can come in and take over for Sutter.

And on top of what Megan said, Sutters & Memorials maternity wards are almost ALSO full! There's no way that memorial will be able to handle their load of prego mommas AND Sutters!

AND with no Sutter Medical Group many docs will be forced to change Health Insurance Providers which is going to change evreyone's insurance.

AND Sutter is a teaching hospital. So all the people that are their doing their rotations and interships will have to be sent somewhere else.

It's not going to be pretty!

Originally they said by the end of this year, but the article today said 2008. Although I did not see a specific date in 2008.
