View Full Version : woman dies of water intoxication for a Wii Administrator 01-14-2007, 11:23 AM http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16614865/ how sad :( meeg124 01-14-2007, 11:34 AM That is really sad. She had three kids and was trying to win the Wii for them. JuliaSannar 01-14-2007, 11:58 AM Sometimes those radio stunts go a little too far. How sad for her kids and her family. daisydoc 01-14-2007, 12:10 PM I'm sorry but no video game contraption is worth my life. The kids will live without it. Now they have to live without their mother. Not a smart decision on her part. I feel sorry for the kids but I have a hard time having sympathy for someone who makes unintelligent decisions like that. Drinking TONS of any liquid and not allowing your body to get rid of it is harmful. Administrator 01-14-2007, 12:16 PM i don't think people (as a whole) are well educated on the hazards of extreme water consumption. They think that water is harmless, and that's so untrue colleen_22205 01-14-2007, 12:37 PM that is so sad. KaisaG 01-14-2007, 01:23 PM That is horrible- but they all should have known better... especially since a few years ago that one boy died up at Humboldt State from the same thing during hell week. Granted his circumstances were far worse (like sleeping in a basement that had backed up with sewage when it was nearly freezing outside) but still the ultimate cause of his death was water intoxication. The frat boys that we're in on it all went to jail... becky 01-14-2007, 08:04 PM how sad :( Cheri 01-14-2007, 09:29 PM How sad for those children. Lynette 01-14-2007, 11:16 PM What a pointless and lame reason to die. You would think at the very least the radio station would have had someone look into the fact that every year or so there is a story about someone dying from drinking too much water.... My3sonsplus1 01-15-2007, 06:30 AM did she not even "win"? That is so sad! http://chemistry.about.com/cs/5/f/blwaterintox.htm is a source that talks about it. As long as you are drinking to thirst you should be fine. I don't understand the radio station, or contestants for that matter... that lady went home because she was dying. Her headache was a sign she was o/ding... :( something as simple as pedialyte every couple bottles may have been the difference between life and death! (not that the contest was not hugely STUpid to begin with!!!) My3sonsplus1 01-18-2007, 04:13 PM from another forum I am on: Re: Mother dead after trying to win a Nintendo Wii ----------------- transcripts/other news blip from the event-- Quote: "I want to say that those people drinking all that water can get sick and die from water intoxication," said the caller. "Yeah, we're aware of that," replied a DJ, according to the broadcast news report. "They signed releases so we're not responsible, okay?" Donnie Logsdon – one of the 18 contestants trying to win a Nintendo Wii gaming console by drinking the most water without going to the bathroom – tells KOVR-TV news that they didn't hear that on-air warning in the room where he and the others were filling up way beyond comfort. "My head hurts. They keep telling me that it's the water...that it will tell my head to hurt and it'll make me puke." Strange told the DJ, live on the air, before leaving the station. "Who told you that, the intern?" was the DJ's response, according to the KOVR-TV news report on the radio show. and more Quote: Guy Host 1: Fester, how much water do you think you'll have to drink before you have to Wee. Fester: 2 Gallons. Guy Host 1: 2 gallons of water! Ah dude! Girl Host: Can't you get water poisoning. Guy Host 1: Your bodies 98% percent water why can't you take in as much water as you want. Girl: I don't know. Guy #2: What about that poor kid who was in college? Guy #1: I know, but he was doing other things. Girl: I know, that's what I was thinking, maybe we should have researched this before. Guy #2: We never do this before I start doing something, next thing you know I break out in hives and I'm in an ambulance. Guy #1: If it gets dangerous for someone there body will automaticly throw it up, and if someone throws up there out of the contest. Eva (on radio) Eva, what do you want to say. Eva: I want to say those people drinking all the water can get sick and possibly die of water intoxication. Guy #1: Yea, we're aware of that. Guy #2: They signed releases, so we're not responsible, it's okay. (laughing) Guy #1: If they get to the point they have to throw up, then they're going to throw up and they're out of the contest before they die, so that's good, right? Girl: Ah, that's mean. ... Guy 1: Hey Carter, is anyone dying yet? Carter: We got a guy just about to die. (laughing) Guy 1: I'm glad we laugh at that. Guy 2/Girl: Make sure you get the insurance. Sign the release get a stretcher. Administrator 01-18-2007, 04:30 PM ugh. they should be fired. then shot. Sara 01-18-2007, 04:33 PM ugh. they should be fired. then shot. They were fired. I think 9 people total including the interns and anyone associated with the show. Administrator 01-18-2007, 04:59 PM good. there is no excuse for that kind of behavior. Lynette 01-18-2007, 05:37 PM 10 people including the 3 DJ's were fired and now because of the sheriff getting ahold of the transcript of the show they are looking into homicide charges. My3sonsplus1 01-18-2007, 05:49 PM I was sad when I intially read the article becasue I falsley assumed no one was aware of the dangers but apparently they had tons and tons of people calling and telling them it was dangerous (in theory) and ***dangerous*** (listening to the contest and the lady complaining of a headache) I cannot believe how blatently flippant they were KNOWING it was dangerous. Shit I might "feel responsible" had I known about the contest and not drove down there and warned the entrants personally. Stupid is one thing, putting SOMEONE ELSES life on the line becasue you think it is "no big deal" IMFGoodness!!! I mean they told her 'oh nothing is wrong, you would throw up before anything bad happened and implying her head was supposed to hurt and poo pooing her complaint'!?!!?@^(&*@%!%@!!!! I mean okay save face take her off air quietly (and I don't even agree with that but devils "advocate") but call the f'ing paramedics to check her out. daisydoc 01-18-2007, 06:34 PM OMG! That's horrible! I hope they go thru with the homicide charges. I don't understand how anyone could be that flippant and detached from "killing" someone b/c that effectively what they were doing. :shake Lynette 01-18-2007, 06:35 PM That's the problem though is that people think drinking a lot of water is no big deal because it is, well, water. Really really dumb. Those poor kids :( becky 01-18-2007, 09:32 PM :yeah KaisaG 01-19-2007, 06:58 AM I heard about that transcript on the news too. I don't see why homicide charges shouldn't be brought up- that's what they did when the frat boy died of the same thing and now those boys are in prison- same place that these radio personalities should be! The whole thing just makes me sick to my stomach. Sara 01-19-2007, 05:08 PM More Wii news....family sues radio station. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070119/en_nm/media_radiodeath_dc Administrator 01-19-2007, 05:15 PM good. They deserve everything coming to them. |
