In the other post Lindsay mentioned baby carriers and i wanted to ask what kind do you use.
I have only used the baby bjorn which wasnt comfotable for myah or myself for any long than a half hour and that was when she was still very little.
I do have a mai ti (sp?) carrier that a MOM Pack member made for me as a barter but i have never used it before but i have heard nothing but wonderful things about it.
I'm sure there are other carriers out there so if there is one that you just loved using i would love to hear about it.
I LOVEED my Hotsling :)
I dunno if you were wanting to get one before baby, but you are welcome to a test run with the baby in my hotsling (although they actually go by size, so the size may be off... it goes by the length of your torso to your bust size if i remember right.. and i had some BIIIIIIG ol boobies when i got it)

oh that would be awesome Jackie. I didn't know what was out there when I had myah other than what i found in the baby stores but i would love to find something comfortable.

I'm no help...we use the bjorn because when I put Baby E in a sling he freaked out. He never liked being swaddled either... He's nosey... he has to be in the mix at all times.

I've always wanted a mai tai...lol.. but I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Moby wrap.. I have tried almost EVERY other carrier out there, and the moby is by far the BEST I have ever used! I cannot praise it enough... I have a bad back (At times..lol) and when wearing Luke (who is about 23 lbs I think) I can't hardly tell there is added weight on my front, the way it evenly distributes it arcross the back and shoulders.. LOVE IT... ;)

I have a sling and a Baby Bjorn Active Carrier. I used the sling more around the hosue when JAzper was little so I could still get stuff done while he nursed... or to the stor so i could nurse him while I shopped. once he was a little older and not nursinf ALL day long ;) I used the Bjorn Active Carrier! LOVE IT! I'm sad though... it only goes to 26 lbs and Jazper's 25! :lol
I tried a Mody Wrap and really liked it BUT I am always super hot when I'm nursing so having (what felt like to me) a sweatshirt on over my shirt(s) PLUS baby just made me too damn hot even just walking in the store for 5 minutes to see if J and I would like it.
yaeh, I should add that I'm not sure how the hotsling works with heavier babies b/c I only used tiw tih brendan and at 8 months he was like 15lbs.

I have an Ergo you are more than welcome to try. http://www.ergobabycarrier.com/ Young babies ride in front up to a certain age/weight and then you can carry them on your back or hip up to like 40lbs or something. I got it when Alaina was a little too old I think so never used it in thr front position and she didn't really like being stuck on my back when she was in the middle of trying to figure out how to walk.

I think the ergo is the only one i never really looked at becuase they are so darn expensive. They look really cool but man they cost alot. I would love to try it out though.

I have a sling made by Karma baby - that I love (karmababy.com)
a fleece one that I made myself (cost about $7.00, 20 minutes of my time, is perfect for the winter and is so cozy. I used my Karma baby sling as the pattern)
a mai-tai ish carrier that I borrowed from lindsay months ago (thanks Lindsay:)
and a moby wrap that I can't say enough good things about. I too have struggled with back issues, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!
It's so funny to me that once you starting wearing your baby, you realize how many different carriers you need.
stacy is right... MOST slings you can use as a pattern... if you know someone who sews (I don't trust myself with that kind of stuff) you can have them look at my hotsling to get a pattern from it if you like it (b/c they are $$$... atleast to me they are, LOL)

I can't say enough things about my Moby Wrap. It has been a great back saver for me. I can walk miles (I have gone at least 6miles at one time) and never had an issues with my back. They come in some cute fabrics, and they are pretty inexpensive.

I know, my thought process was that since you can carry toddlers around with it I would get my money's worth which is why I haven't sold it or anything, I am hoping if we have another that one may be more open to the idea :)

Kayla hated the carrier but myah did fine while she was little. Over time the baby bjorn was jsut not working for me becuase my back would get ired so fast. That is why i want to see what else is out there and try and many as i can.

I agree with this completely! The moby is the best one, imo.
But do try all the styles, see what works for you.
Hotslings are great for the newborn period. Ring slings are nice for newborns and later, toddlers or large infants for short periods (in my experience). Mei tai carriers are good for 6+ weeks old (I think they are best once babe has *some* head control) well into toddlerhood.

so would everyone agree that this Moby carrier is the best one for big guys? Just curious cuz Baby E won't be able to chill in the bjorn much longer... and I'd like an alternative to dragging the darn stroller with me everywhere I go.

I would say so... it totally saves the back

Some people perfer woven wraps that are not a stretchy as the Moby for larger babies -but I never did. I never thought my woven wrap was as comfy and they are more than twice the price. In any event, I still comfortably wear my 26 lb toddler in the Moby.

Anyone have any idea how much a baby can weigh before the have to graduate from a Moby? Just curious because at last weigh-in Baby E was 23# 6oz. and he's still non-mobile so I'd like it to be soemthing I could use for awhile.

There is no age or pound limit. Basicly you can Moby 'em up until you don't want to wear them anymore/ they don't want to be worn.

I could never get the hang of a moby so I'd suggest a Mai Tai for you Kaisa since I think we are the same frame. I was drowning in the fabric of the Moby.

I'll take your moby off your hands, Lisa :P
FYI: They make a Moby Petite. Also, it's EASY to shrink your Moby considerably, just wash and dry the thing.
p.s. I know a lot of women Lisa's size who use the Moby.

okay ladies if i go nuts trying to figure out how to use these baby carries maybe we should get a group of mommas together and have a demo of somekind from those of you who know how to work the things. Apparently I'm not the only one new to the whole baby carrier thing and i think this would be good for a lot of us.
