I'm just curious.
At what age did you take your child to see a movie in the theater?
Dan and I used to go see movies all the time, and now it's like once in a blue moon. We finally saw Night at the Museum last night, only because V was with my parents.
We would like to go more often, but I thought I would get everyone's opinion of when you took your child and such.
I think it would be fun, cute, etc....to go see a kid movie with V.
I also worry about how loud the movie can get in the theater.

The Sebastopol Cinemas have a "Baby Room". It's sound proof so you can go with your baby to the movies withoug disturbing anyone else. It's offered at no extra charge; it's first come first serve and they only have them in the two largest theaters. You have to call in the morning to see which movies are playing in those and to reserve it.
We haven't gone yet but I know people who have and they loved it!

Salina's first movie was Pocahantas when she was 2 and she only watched it a little bit and then ran up and down the aisle but the theater was pretty empty so it wasn't a big deal. I took Alaina to the theater once when she was really little and young enough to sleep through the whole thing and just kept my hands over her ears. Other than that movie, I think I have been to one (Harry Potter with Salina) since Alaina has been here and have either seen things through On Demand or renting movies at Bradley Video.

We've taken Caden to 3 movies. The first one was Curious George and that was right after he turned 3. He lasted long enough to eat his popcorn and candy and then he was done. But we were prepared that we might have to leave before the movie ended. Last summer, we took him to see Cars. I bought him everything Cars related (tshirt, underwear, books, etc) and to really get him interested in the whole Cars movie theme. After an hour, he wanted to go home. We made him stay for that whole movie, but it was a struggle. Last week we went to see Happy Feet with his preschool group. That was noisy and rowdy and kids running every where (mine included). I'm hoping to take him to see the new Shrek in May or June and because he will sit and watch the whole Shrek movies at home, I'm hoping he'll do the same at the theatre.
We have never used the baby booth at the Sebastopol theatre because any time I have called to see what was playing, it wasn't something I wanted to expose my child to. But I like the idea of being in a room where he could run around and not have to worry about sitting still for 90 minutes.
If you're worried about it being too loud for Victoria, you can get child sized moldable ear plugs at Long's.

We have yet to take either child to the movie theater. We are at the point now where we just rent the video.

I've taken all my kids at various ages... Luke just went with us, but at 6 mos he was in his wrap while I swayed with him near the exit while watching the majority of the movie... We took Ali to see cars, curious george, and one other I don't remember when they all came out, and she's 2 1/2 now, and did fine... she just sat next to us, ate some popcorn and watched the movie (I singled Al out cus she's the youngest who would actually be difficultin the movie)... I really think it depends on the kid, and their personality.. I think if they can chill at home and sit while watching the majority of a movie, then they'd be fine at the theater... and yeah, depending on the theater they can be VERY loud
Jacob has seen 2 movies. Cars when he was about 2 1/2 and he lasted through most of it and Happy Feet which he watched the whole thing. Both times someone else took him, so I can't wait for something else to come out to take him to. We went to the Snoopy museum recently and wanted to stay to watch Charlie Brown x-mas in their theatre, but Amelia wouldn't have it. I think they are too young at this age (at least A is, she won't sit still for anything!). I would wait until at least 2 and even then be prepared to leave and not see the whole thing.
I *really* want to get a group together to go to a movie in the baby rooms anna talked about :)

:yeah We forget about it all the time and when I do remember they have only been playing R movies. Maybe they just assume kids movies will be full of screaming babies??

That would be fun. We haven't taken Lucca yet, but will take her to see Shrek.

The last time I called it was some shoot em up action flick, which Caden probably would have sat for, completely enthralled in the gore and explosives. Even if he was a little baby, I don't know that I would want him exposed to that kind of imagery.

kayla has always gone on DD dates since she was very young and never had any trouble. I know with Myah it would be a completely different story. I think it would be great to go to the one in sebastepol as a playdate or something.

We took Maverick to the movies when he was 3 months old. He nursed and or slept the whole thing. Now that he is older I wouldn't dare as he is much more aware and LOUD!
I remember going to the movies as a little girl and loving it. I think I was about 5. I am ot sure when we will take Maverick again. Probably not until he is 3 or 4 if it is for him to watch....
