Hello, I am new to the website and this is my first "real" post. My daughter is 2 months old and used to have a poopie diaper almost every time I changed her. Now she is conserving more and only poops once a day, but they are horrendous blowouts! I am getting really exasperated with all the work because she almost always requires a bath, the changing table is a mess afterwards, and her clothes are getting dirty. Sooooo... 2 questions for the group:
1) Any suggestions on daipers that contain "the goods"? I am using size 2 Huggies right now (she is 13 lbs).
2) Any tips on strategies or products that get poop and spit up out of adorable little white onesies and baby clothes?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated!! :)

I never had to many problems with "blowout" diapers, so sorry, I can't help there. But as far as stains go, try Oxyclean and soaking her clothes in the Oxyclean. I find that the Oxyclean does make colored clothes kind of non colorfast, so you have to watch out for that. Otherwise, I pretreat with Dreft stain remover or Spray N Wash. Also, if it is something that I really do not want stained, I don't put it in the dryer. I will hang it up to dry, to make sure the stain came out in the wash.
Good luck!

kail went through this when he was about 2 months old i think as well.............i bought those plastic underwear (training underwear) in the smallest size i could find and put them over his diaper, under his clothes. he did this to me multiple times and it was usually in the car on the way to the grocery store or something....lol
i think i got the panties at target

I never resolved the blowout problem when Ava was young. I did try several different diapers and the pampers worked the best for us. We also would use Spray n Wash but you have to get it right away. I would rinse and then spray n wash. I would ALWAYS have a onsie on her so she didnt ruin her cute outfits. Good luck!

even if you don't want to give cloth diapers a shot you can use a diaper cover designed for cloth diapers. We use these kind http://www.treecitydiapers.com/store/product/8077/Bummis-SWW-Andy-Pandy-Newborn/ as well as these http://www.mother-ease.com/database/scripts/store_products.pl?TopCat=4&SecCat=19&SID=32d2e20d8ea53585862130943bc7bcf6&Loc=US
and I am actually going to start selling the Motherease diapers and such soon, I think. The contract is in the mail. We've never had a leak with them wince the side airflows really let the diaper breathe.

Lisa, let me know when ;)
It varies by kid (build, weight, torso length, etc) but Pampers have always worked better for Brendan than huggies has. We swear by Pampers Cruisers.
When he's in cloth diapers, Happy Heineys work the best for "containing".

Neither one of my kids had big diaper blow outs. When they did have the occasional leak, I would rise it right away and use the spray and wash and wash right away. Out of all the diaper brands, we like the Pampers Cruisers the best.
Good luck.

:yeah
I also realized I had to do darker color clothes because even though she was bfing exclusively until 6mo, that urp just stains like crazy! I remember looking at cute little white outfits and my oldest would ask me if I was nuts because it wouldn't last a week.

We use huggies, and Victoria would hold her poops for a few days and then have a big, huge, explosion!!!
I would put her in yellow pants/onesies, or clothes I could care less about.
The yellow color newborn pants hide the stain pretty good.
I use the clorox bleach pen for her whites now.
I used/use cloth diapers as burp/snot rags. (They were first used as napkins at my baby shower)
Kellie - I'll have to try the sun, never heard of that one till now.

we bought a nice foldable one a while back and then a heavy umbrella stand, so that is also an option.

We just have a line tied from a tree to our house.. I desperately want an umbrella one, but can't find one around (don't like to order big items online) oh, and we don't have any $$ either...lol

Part of our problem is that in the back yard we have a covered patio, a huge oak tree that has lots of shade, the sides of the house are mostly dog potty zones, and the one fenced off dog free section of the yard that has grass for the kids is also where the vegetable garden is so the competition for sun is a little tight. I am sure if I put up a clothesline in the front yard my neighbors would *love* it :D
Just wondering, but when we lived in the country as a kid the things I hated about hanging out clothes was that they were often stiff as a board and the weight of the wet clothes kind of stretched things out, how to combat those issues?

You might try some liquid fabric softener in the wash.

We hate Huggies... Baby E was in Pampers Swaddlers until he grew out of them... Now he's in a size 4 so we buy Baby Dry.
My sister told me that Trader Joes sells some great Oxy Clean type stuff that actually works better...
