View Full Version : Balloon release for Lucas

Laura has expressed a desire to have a balloon release after the memorial service as a way to say goodbye after her sudden tragic loss. This is a way for us to let Lucas how much he is and will always be cherished. There is no specific amount needed, but she would like the balloons be orange as this was a color Lucas could actually see. Your participation would be appreciated.
I could really use the help of SCM for this as one person would have a hard time transporting a large volume of balloons. If we all come together we can provide enough balloons to make this a reality.
Thank you for your help ladies :hug

There is no law saying you can't release. How ever. They would like it if there was no string or ties on the balloons and that they are hand tied

I am still looking into a sitter.. If I can find one I will get a tank and balloons so people can fill them there.

Shanta I cleared it with the city of windsor. they said they have no law on it and it was up to the site you were having the event at. I called the mortuary and he said it has been done before and that he had never heard of a law about it....not sure what to do about the string issue

Yeah, I think bringing a tank and packages would be easier for transport. If you can't come Shanta, let me know. I'll get a tank and some balloons.

I can bring some Orange balloons. How many people are bringing their kids? I am hoping to leave B&B with MIL bc if I had to bring them it might be too much of a challenge.

I'm trying to find a ride so I can come, can't leave matt with the kids on a sunday with no car... while I'd take mine to a service of a family member they knew, I think a service for a child might be too much for everyone

If i cant get a sitter I will be bringing mine. If i do bring them though I will bring some jelly beans for Shelsea and Myah. It totally did the trick at my SILs funeral a few months ago

I will bring balloons too. I can bring a tank also, but I'll plan on having bags full of already filled orange balloons without any string.

yeah...I'd take the girl to a service (possibly we didn't take her to my Grandmas service just the gahtering afterwards) I just know it would be a tough time keeping her quiet.

I lined up a sitter for the girl...because I would never be able to keep loud mouth quiet.
I like the idea of a tank and balloons, but I am thinking she will want to release them right after the service all at once and that would take quiet a while to blow up all those balloons yourself, unless someone wants to get there about 12:30 and do it then? If you choose that route, SCM will be happy to provide the tank and balloons.

hmmm, thanks for the weather update Becky...not sure the rain would stop it from happening, we would just either have to use umbrellas or brave the storm to make it happen...Let's hope it lets up even for a minute for us to release em'

Colleen, looks like a combo of both...
I think it was decided that everyone should bring at least a few orange balloons blown up, since it would take too long to bring a tank and blow it up there.

FYI: there will be a reception after the service, it's being held at Lauras parents home, and there are directions attached to the programs that will be handed out at Lucas' memorial.

I'll be the idiot and ask, what is hand tying? I sounds like it is just a balloon with no string but if it were that easy one could just clip the ribbon. And they'd be hard to hold prior to releasing unless everyone just hand one or two...

Craigs in Pet would only hand tie 6. and it was a little bit of a fight. They will have ribbons cuz I thought that would be easier for getting them there and holding them but I figured would cut it off.
Most places use this round disc to "tie" the balloons

I think if we cut off the ribbon it should be fine. Otherwise how would you transport them without ribbon? Just curious. Do you think she would mind if bringing a child to afterward. Depending where her parents live. I might have to bring Addison after.

Just confirmed my mom to watch the girls, so I plan to be there and can bring a few balloons. We have a helium tank with a little leftover from Sequoia's birthday. Just hoping I have a few orange balloons kicking around and I will hand tie them myself! Don't think I can swing it to go to the reception, but will be there in spirit.

just leave them in your vehicles and after the memorial we will head out and everyone can go gather the balloons they brought and pass them out to others who are in need of balloons...

My boss gave me a great tip last night. You need a big garbage bag we have the big ones from Costco. Before you leave with the balloons have them help you put the bag over the balloons. Take them to the car and this will help them from getting tangled. And help not move them all over the car. She did at an event yesterday morning and it worked. Will try and see today.
