So I have had Kaiser since I was... an embryo and never any other HMO/PPO what have you. The kids now have Medi-Cal due to K being out of work but Kaiser had too many Medi-Cal patients so they dropped them. We've been assigned the Chanate clinic but I am under the impression that would be for routine appts., or no? Like I suspect Caleb may have a rupture ear drum (I noticed this a.m. one ear has some of that orangish wax discharge inside the canal the other a brick red bit in the canal. He is constantly fussy so who's to say if it is reflux, the cold he's had or the ear that has made him fussy this past week) besides abx there really isn't anything that can be "done" so it isn't an ER visit but in the same sense I think I would like to have him seen some time. Or any other type of non-ER yet not really something you schedule an appt a few days away for... is that what the RP and new urgent care clinic on Sebastopol Road are for (they sent us a magnet for the fridge announcing the new clinic, but they always have sent us stuff even when we all had Kaiser) or are those for people with some other HMO/PPO plan? Heck even ER visit do I go to any non-Kaiser facility for that? I am so endoctorinated to Kaiser I have NO IDEA how anything else works! Help pretty please!

Does the Medi-Cal card say that they are part of a medical group? If not, you can go to any facility that accepts Medi-Cal. I've heard that it can take weeks to get an appointment at the Chanate clinic (however, this is just what I've heard through the grapevine). If the Medi-Cal is through a specific medical group, then you have to go to that group. It should say on the card but if it's not clear I would call your caseworker or I can verify your Medi-Cal for you on Monday (when I have my Medi-Cal log in info).

See I thought we lost our case workers when they went to the Partnership Healthplan of CA... mine quit or was laid off just before the switch over anyway and I was in limbo when I was trying to figure it all out back in Oct about whether or not the kids (or I for that matter at that point) had Kaiser still. And at that point the left had no idea what the right hand was doing. MediCal was clueless as to PHCA and PHCA thought the whole family had MC... As far as I can tell J has Kaiser and Chanate because he has to go to Kaiser to see Dr. Jacobson and seems to have slipped through the cracks due to Kaiser being a catch all.

on the paper PHCA card for E for example (that we use with his plastic blue and white MC card) it lists Chanate Family Practice as his PCP with a local? (303-xxxx) phone # then OP and IP mental Health and two diff 800 #'s for those and Pharmacy:PbmMedImpact. Aid:8P It is all gibberish to me. Lists a member services but lists hours as M-F 8-5

If you think you might be able to figure more out on Monday I'd appreciate you doing whatever digging you can :) Thanks!!!

I've heard it takes forever to get into the Chanate clinic, but I could be wrong. You could try calling one of the urgent care clinics and see what they say about the coverage tomorrow. Sorry, don't know much about insurance stuff.

My understanding is that if Kaiser is not on your PH card you're out of luck. I petitioned for us to get back onto Kaiser once PH got involved and thankfully we were accepted. DH was not though...

I never thought we had Kaiser now (well I know my oldest does, at least for eye care but it is covered by another party) I just have no idea where we *are* supposed to go if we need care. This is super fun... :banghead

Surely I am not the only person on here assigned to Chanate who has had an urgent care need... maybe they have all been busy with life and last night's MNO?

So urgent care will take any Medi-Cal (even if I am assigned to Chanate) then? K and I have no insurance so this is just for the kids.
