I'm kinda clueless when it comes to what to get in a point & shoot camera these days. Its been over 6 years since I used/purchased one so I am not sure what is out there. My girlfriend sent me a list of things she has planned for our time together which includes kayaking, bike riding, hiking and several city things so bringing my camera isn't exactly ideal so I want to buy a P&S.

I went to Costco the other day and they all seem the same so I thought I would ask here instead. What do you recommend?

I love my Olympus Stylus 850SW (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/539557-REG/Olympus_226330_Stylus_850_SW_Digital.html) it's waterproof, so I take it in the pool when we go swimming....for some fun shots! And it has video as well....I've dropped it several times and it's shows no wear :thumb It comes in fun colors (mine is turquoise) and it's nice and small.
It's a couple years old now...I'm sure there's a few newer models by now...but I recommend it :)

I have a Canon Powershot. I think it is a 1100 but doesn't matter because they come out with new ones every year. It's 10MP or 12MP and I like it fairly well. I has kind of a slow response time with flash and doesn't work at its best in the auto mode. It takes pretty good video. It is compact. Obviously it can't compare to the gear you use but it is pretty good. I've owned 4 point & Shoot digital cameras including a previous version of the powershot and this one has been the best and is by far better for picture quality than the Sony's I had.

I have a cannon powershot and it does a good job. It also does short videos. We usually buy cannons and have nothing but good experiences with them. We even have a really really old one we bring snowboarding (don't want to fall on a good one :)) that still works great. It has to be 8+ years old now and we never had a problem with it. P&S's are an adjustment though as they are SO SLOW :tongue

We bought at Sony Cybershot about 3 weeks ago and I love, love, love it. I wanted to spend under $300 total (taxes, cover, etc) and this camera was in the right price range plus Best Buy had it in red.

I had an Olympus Stylus 1050 and I had to send it back twice for repairs and it still didn't work right. I have a Nikon Coolpix S630 now which I love...I got it at Costco in February.

I have a Canon PowerShot SD790 IS Digital ELPH and adore it. It shoots video and stills and very rough and tumble.

This is my third Canon powershot and I have loved them all just upgraded do to tech reasons.

I can't take a self portrait to save my life but I love that little feature.

My photographer friend in MN is on a trip to Maine and she said she just got the Sony Cybershot h55 and loves it. I have only ever had a canon and i think the last one was a powershot of some kind. The girls dropped it one to many times so it doesn't work anymore :( All the new ones out there are so fancy now in comparison to my old point and shoot

I just got a Cannon PS too. I dropped my Olympus at Scandia and it won't do anything anymore. I can't believe how prices have come down! That's a big plus! My Olympus was like $500 4yrs ago. This one I got for like $160. Now I just have to use it.

I also got a flip video. Gonna use both this weekend in Napa.

Ok, I have this and when I bought it it worked amazing and now it kind of sucks! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one.
