We've had a DVD player for the car that is a dual screen that attaches to the back of the seats for a few years but it's biting the dust. I'm trying to decide if I want to get another one like we have now, or get the kids each their own like this http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Disney+-+Cars+7%22+Portable+DVD+Player+-+Red/Black/9667637.p?id=1218141557391&skuId=9667637 I'm just worried with the one that sits on their lap that they'd drop it and destroy it, but it seems more convenient than having all the cords, and I like that they could each watch their own without having to argue about it. Long trips are bad enough without that lol! Has anyone given their little ones that kind before?

personally I think I'd prefer the headrest mount ones for limiting projectiles reasoning. I wouldn't want a hand held dvd player flying around in the car in a collision since there are other options that do the same thing.

We have portable DVD players that can be held in their laps but we also have the "car kit" so that we can strap the player onto the back of the headrest. My father bought them at Christmas time at Costco a couple of years ago. It was a Panasonic 2-pack so it included two DVD players, two car kits and two headphones. I like the flexibility of using them in the car or using them at the hotel/etc when we get to our destination. My kids were 8 and 3 when we got them and we've never had any problems with them.

We have a built in DVD ditty in the Yukon, but when we take the Fusion on long trips (like Santa Barbara) we have a portable one that can strap onto the seat...we've tried having her hold it before as well.....she does fine with either option. We don't really use the DVD player in either car all that often.....probably like less than a dozen times....but it *has* come in handy when she's been antsy and or fussy on a car trip :thumb

Yeah, I only use the DVD player on trips that are more than an hour or so. But when we do go on trips that long I don't know what I would do without it, it's a total lifesaver! I think we'll probably end up doing the headrest ones just because of cost, but it's good to know the little ones can do ok with it.

Ugh, the longest we've done is Anaheim/Yucaipa. That's bed enough!

we have only ever used the head rest kind and that was trouble enough with the 3 of them fighting :lol Personally I would much rather use the headrest kind just so there is no chance of them dropping it especially if they fall asleep in the car. Never mind that they always want something to snack on or play with in their lap so having the DVD player will only lead to accidents
