Anyone have recommendations for cough drops? Morgan (7) has a never ending cough. No other symptoms. She is horrible about taking medicine - robitusson, tylenol, etc. We seriously have to pin her down.

I need some magic cough drop that she will actually take and it works great. She has her dance performance this weekend. Lots of sitting around and waiting for her with a bunch of other kids. I really can't have her coughing non stop. Horrible timing!

Any recommendations?

i like the ricola drops myself, they don't taste so medicinal. Also the Halls Lemon and Honey ones have that "cooling" effect and also taste a little less cough-drop-y.

I have learned with cough drops that they are really nothing more than a lifesaver or other hard candy. Especially if you get the ones without menthol (which I happen to hate with a passion and it always upsets my stomach!). If it's just a minor throat irritation I'd be more apt to just get some hard candies.

It's the pectin in the cough drop that soothes your throat... so like Kim said, hard candies work just as well. You could also try a honey stick.

Thanks everyone. I ended up getting some Ricola and Walgreens generic brand. I learned that Morgan doesn't like cherry flavored, although she likes cherries. Got one honey something and one strawberry flavored. Both cough suppressants. She does seem to be on the mend, thank God! I was stressing about her coughing non stop back stage when I have to sit in the audience.

:yeah and stimulates saliva to cut the tickle. Since they don't allow medicine at schools anymore, Salina takes hard candies because she hates hacking during class.

I'm with her. Cherry cough drop is one of the worse flavors ever especially since it tastes nothing like real cherry. I don't why cherry smell goes into anything, especially toilet cleaner. Now that's a smell that makes me want to hurl.

wow that's nuts. What's a girl to do without the monthly motrin? What about prescription stuff? Cough drops aren't even medicine??!!??

Oh no, you aren't supposed to have that at all and if you *have* to take something (including prescriptions) you are supposed to drop it off in the office with directions on how and when to take it. Its all come down to liability issues and being sued :rolleyes I had a co-worker whose daughter was allergic to beestings and the school fought her on letting her keep one of those epi-pens in the classroom and there have been stories in the news about kids who have an asthma attack and another kid lets them use their inhaler and they get in trouble because of no tolerance drug policies. Having said all that, of course they smuggle stuff in but they aren't out in the open about it.
