Okay, so ever since Mav was born we have either watched our Netflix shows or we watch Heroes, House, and Bones. But we have started watching American Idol too.....

I am not sure when I became a "regular TV watcher" but oh no....it has happened!

So, does anyone watch AI? I guess it is a guilty pleasure of mine....

I totally watch it.
I'm a HUGE Chris Sligh fan. He's actually friends with one of my friends. His dad is a pastor and my friend Erin went to church with them.
I like him b/c he's talented and knows he is, but he doesn't act cocky about it (*cough*ace*cough*)

OMG he is one of my favorites!!! He is actually one of 2 of my favorites but he is #1. I just love his personality. Lakisha Jones is also really good too.

I have to say that I was upset to see that Antonella Barba stayed...she totally needed to be booted...her attitude stinks!

I'm glad to see that I am not the only AI fan.

1.) she wasn't kicked b/c she's been chosen this year by votefortheworst.com

2.) she'll be kicked this week b/c a ton of pics of her topless, and performing oral sex were leaked online.

We go back and forth, like we watched the 2nd season but not the 1st and 3rd and lost interest in the last one but this time Salina and I have Brian hooked so maybe we will watch to the end :) Is Chris Sligh the chubby guy with curly hair? That guy is funny! I also like the big black lady with the kid, man can she belt it out!

Chris Sligh rocked last night! I hope he got enough votes....can't see a reason he wouldn't. His is the one we are cheering for!

I actually did LOVE Chris's performance last night. It wasn't bad but it wasn't goosebumps good either, kwim?
I thought the black guy (i'm so bad at names in the beginning) ROCKED his Marvin Gaye song (Can i just say how incredibly HOT that boy is?!)

New `Idol' Singers Fighting Blah Factor

By ERIN CARLSON
Associated Press Writer

Blah. If any word were to sum up this year's mostly bland and sometimes unwatchable batch of "Idol" contestants, that'd be it.

Sure, there are some standouts - sweet-natured former backup singer Melinda Doolittle, big-voiced belter LaKisha Jones and cocksure beatboxer Blake Lewis are shoo-ins to face off in the weeks before the Fox talent show's big May finale. Each are confident, worthy performers - yet they don't leave you wanting more.

Yes, I'll admit it: I miss Taylor Hicks and his herky-jerky dancing. I miss watching the kittenish Katharine McPhee make goo-goo eyes at the camera. I miss making goo-goo eyes at the TV when bald rocker Chris Daughtry worked the stage like a pro. Then there's my personal favorite, the soulful and snaggletoothed Elliot Yamin, who had me in tears when he was voted off last year. (Yamin has since had a full dental makeover, complete with new veneers.)

"It's a very hard season I think, at this point, to pinpoint who has the `it' factor," said Michael Slezak, who blogs about the show for Entertainment Weekly magazine's Web site. "Which is strange, because usually by this point in the `Idol' season, you could say: 'Fantasia has IT. Carrie Underwood has IT. Chris Daughtry has IT.'"

It must be noted, though, that this year's guy to watch - the scrappy Lewis, who nailed a cover of Keane's "Somewhere Only We Know" - is a lot hipper than Hicks. The likable Doolittle seems less of a diva than McPhee, who at times came off as aloof and self-aware. Still, last season's talent pool - stuffed with variety, excitement and star quality - might have set the bar so high that viewers are feeling let down by the new kids.

Give them time to develop, said host Ryan Seacrest, who counts Doolittle and Jones as "the favorites."

"I can hope that the guys get better and better each week," Seacrest recently told AP Television. "And, in terms of anything else, the contestants are experiencing something they've never been through before and (are) thrown into this. And, it's a long process."

"We are SO early in the season and in the series, you also don't want to be somebody (who) peaks too soon," he continued. "You want to make sure you're good enough to stay in but you're building with each week, so the audience gets behind you."

In other words: Don't write off this crop of contenders just yet. After all, the top 12 finalists have yet to be announced.

"This group of singers has a chance to redeem themselves," Slezak said. "Right now, I would say it's gonna be tough for them to outdo last season. But I think there are enough good singers that it could be as good as last season."

One of those singers is the spunky and stylish Stephanie Edwards, who tore up her rendition of Beyonce's "Dangerously In Love" last week. "So many people are going to be in love with Stephanie Edwards right now," gushed Paula Abdul.

Hope so. Producers should show more of Edwards' backstory, so we can get to know her better. Her competition - especially Jones, who gives us someone to root for as a single mom to an adorable little girl - has an edge on her in that respect.

Edwards, 19, who is from Georgia, would also do well to separate herself from the pack of female front-runners: Jones, Doolittle, 17-year-old Jordin Sparks and curly haired Sabrina Sloan. All are going the R&B route, which makes for boring TV on a star-making show that has crowned such disparate acts as Hicks, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Fantasia Barrino.

What's missing on this "Idol," Slezak said, is "a real mix of different types."

"A lot of the guys are working a sort of Justin Timberlake-y, Usher-y vibe, and a lot of the women are sort of working an old-school Gladys Knight, Aretha kind of vibe," he said. "I was surprised by the fact that there aren't really any legitimate rock singers, that there doesn't seem to be anyone who's a country singer."

Remember Tami Gosnell, the pedicab driver from Colorado? Now there was a star. When she sang "Whipping Post" during her audition, it was like that scene in "The Queen" when Helen Mirren's Queen Elizabeth is nearly rendered speechless by the sight of a magnificent, elusive stag. Such moments happen rarely, when we least expect them.

So invigorating was Gosnell's bluesy, natural performance that it required another viewing, courtesy of DVR. She had a certain something - a quality that can vaguely be described as "IT."

She was also inexplicably cut after this year's Hollywood rounds. In a sea of "blah," Gosnell certainly stood out.

Isn't that worth voting for?

I really like Chris! I think he really has a great voice!

I like that black guy...gosh I can't remember his name right now...because he is hot...I kinda hope he stays on for a bit just so I can look at him. I hope he sings another Marvin Gaye song...even the same one would be fine with me. I thought he did do a good job on it. I wonder what he will sing tonight. Only one hour left.... :)

Oh yeah, that guys is adorable :D I like Chris, Blake, Lakisha, and Melanie which I think unless they have a really bad night will probably be the final four. Antonella makes me want to just flick her, doesn't she get that she is a joke and that is the only reason she is still there?!

Lynette: I thought it was interseting that the week of her whole "I like to give he*d" scandal, She got snitty with simon about how "he was wrong about Jennifer Hudson"
I thought, "no... america voted Jennifer Hudson off, just like they are gunna do with you sweetheart"
UGH. she annoys me.

Tell me about it!!! Saying I want to flick her wouldn't even cover it! I hope she gets voted off this week!

I liked Chris last night, but I wasn't in love with it. I actually felt like the guys were lagging last night too. Something was off with most of them. I was dissapointed.

:biglaugh Now that is bad!! I dunno, there is something about Sanjaya's demeanor that I like about him, I guess I would rather see them humble and nervous than cocky and annoying like Antonella. I haven't watched it yet on the DVR but glad he wasn't so bad this week.

LMS

yeah, i like Sanjaya's personality.. like he feels very honored to be there. He doesn't act like he in entitled to be there for some reason.
I'm just disappointed with his performances the last few weeks, btu he was REALLY good last night... too bad the judges didn't think so

A WET NOODLE!!! LOL! Don't worry. Although I do not think he was all that great, he was better than a few others that is for sure.

I agree that his personality is WAY better than Antonella!!! I REALLY hope she gets the boot this week! I mean REALLY hope! I just can't see her in the top 12 anyway. What I really just don't like is the idea of someone so cocky, rude, and just not nice in the top 12. AND SHE CAN'T SING! :myopinion

Sanjaya is GONE!!! Finally!

Looks like we now have some actual singers left in the group!

For a while there I thought Howard Stern was actually going to be able to accomplish his goal of keeping only those that sucked in the hopes of getting the show to be off the air for good. I'm glad that the people left can actually sing now.

I fell asleep last night and when I woke up I asked who they voted off. I thought JR was playing a joke on me when he said Sanjaya :giggle

Can i tell a funny Sanjie story really quick before we all forget he ever existed?

Someone I know on another board has a little girl who is like 4 or something. She said she was hurting "down there" and her mom was trying to figure out what was wrong. She's big on using anatomically correct terms, so she explained that it was her vagina, and was asking what the "hurt" felt like so she could help her. She never quite got to explain it.
Later on the girl said "I have to go potty" and her mom said "okay, go ahead" and she responded "nooooo, it'll hurt!!"
her mom said "what'll hurt honey?"
"My sanjaya"
