I kept going back and forth between the Canon 30d or the Nikon d70s. I really wanted the Nikon d80 but I couldn't justify spending that much for a first camera. Especially if I end up sucking at it. I was going to go for the d70s but switched at the end to the D50 b/c of one of the reviews I read and b/c of Jackies post.

So long story short, I ended up with the Nikon D50.

Hmm... maybe not the Canon D30. It was one of the Canon DSLR's. I look at SO many I can't remember now.

oooh! I started with the D50. I LOVE it. If you need any help, let me know. We should get together one day for coffee and talk camera stuff ;)

We should totally get together. As long as you don't mind me asking a million questions :) I have to look at my calendar on my lunch break and I will PM you.

Do you recommend any specific kind of memory card? I noticed they had different types of the SD cards but don't know the difference (i.e. ultra II).

no problem with questions :) I had a million when I first got my camera too ;)
As far as memory cards, I always went with the big print high speed cards. High speed cards allow the camera to write the images to disc faster than the regular ones (quicker shots)
these:

But i'd skip the 256, and go for atleast 1g
