I'm thinking about saving up some money for some new professional pictures for after #2 shows up. Him, Eamonn, family, etc...

I remembered there were a few ladies here who seemed associated with photography, so...I'm looking for prices, websites, so forth and so on! I'm sure we'd want some more traditional stuff, but we also like at least some creative stuff, too.

Also, I'd love input on when would be a good time to get them. Baby is due in July, so definitely not before then, and I think we'd wait at least a month after he's here (although I suppose that's up for debate). After that - do you have opinions on when/what age is a good time for the first "family" shoot?

I will say I regret not having new newborn pictures. Like it hurts my soul to think about. But I was holed up recovering from a csection and had no way (well energy really. I literally nursed and slept for a good while since I couldn't move except to pee and onyl after a long trek to the bahroom) to reach the "outside world"/no idea how to untacky=ly ask someone to hep me find a photography STAT and baby kept getting bigger every day. So my suggestion is w/i the first week pr two but if you are feeling like you need family privacy you can always postpone I am thinking, but you can't take back those first days so I would want to 'be on the books" with someone..

At the hospital in Denver where I delivered Eamonn, we had pictures taken at the hospital. Don't know if they do that here, but I would hope they do. We'll get those taken, and we'll take a whole bunch of snapshots, too. We got a really great one of Eamonn in the hospital that we blew up to 8x10 and still have on our wall. I think we'll have at least basic shots covered...but I'm not sure if it'd be nice to do more. I'm just thinking a full blown session as I'm still potentially on drugs and haven't gotten into any kind of rhythm might be hard...

Where are you delivering? Kaiser has a volunteer staff but out of 5 kids- 4 that spent time in the hospital only 1 was there on a day they were taking pictures, and the "pictures" they take is a single shot taken of them from above in their bassinette. Just a FWIW.

Good to know. That's where I'm delivering. Lots different than the place where I delivered Eamonn. They had a professional photographer and took pictures every day (at least every weekday). They took 3 shots, but I think they may have "deleted" some before having their official 3. Still, I liked the ones we took lots better, and we never bought any of the ones they took.

We did a professional shoot when Eamonn was about 6 months old. Some of that was nice, some was not as nice. I'm definitely open to other ages...

If you are looking for newborn photos I would suggest sometime within the first 2 wks because that is when babies are the most sleepy and its so much easier when they are still nice and curly. I have photographed older babies but for most photographers the general rule is within the first 2 wks.

I had my first two babies in SoCal and part of the going home treat was to have a photographer come to my home to take photos of my babies and get a free 5x7. With both girls I ended up finding myself spending $250 just because I couldn't say no, the photos were so cute ;) Shelsea I got an actual newborn session and it was amazing. If/when I even have another baby I would so do the newborn photos again. Its such a different experience than my other two who had their photos taken when they were 3-6wks old

There are several photogs here including myself all with different styles and price ranges. I am sure you will find the perfect fit.
