Okay, I know that Comcast is the evil empire (sorry Kathleen, I know your DH works there) but I decided to sign up to get cable today. I got rid of our satellite a couple of months ago to save some money and since we thought we would be moving shortly, we were going to get it installed at our new house. But in working with the mortgage company, it will probably be about 6 months or so before we will be able to hopefully buy a house. Well, I don't want to go the entire NASCAR season without seeing one race and plus I just miss watching something besides movies on TV. I didn't want to get satellite again, since Kellie's DH was kind enough to come over and remove our old satellites already and we would have to get any kind of dish removed before we moved, since we rent. Anyway... I go through the steps on Comcast's website. Choose the package I want, get the DVR and then pick out 3 appointment times. Then I have to go to a live chat to confirm the appointment. The live chat rep informs that the DVR won't work with the package I requested and I should go back and review what was available. I tell her that I really want a DVR and what is a similiar package that I could get with the DVR? She tells me I need a digital package and I need to back and review what is available. I had already chosen a digital package, so I ask her again, you can't tell me what will work with the DVR? No, I have to go back and review.

What a pain in the ass. I don't see where it says what package is available with the DVR. How am I supposed to know what I can get then? I'm so irritated that I'm thinking 6+ months without cable won't kill me after all. Why does something that should be relatively simple have to be so difficult? I want to give this company my money, for some reason, and yet they make it so difficult for me to do that. Sorry this is so long but I'm just irritated and had to vent about it!

Sounds like you got a stupid customer service person but yes, Comcast is that way sometimes. When I get people that obviously don't know what they are talking about I hang up and call back hoping to get someone with an IQ higher than a gnat's. You do have to get a digital package for the DVR, I think ours is called like the Bronze or something??

Well, I tried it again, chose the same package and got the same customer service rep. This time, it wasn't an issue. WHATEVER!!

I can't say we had that experience...sorry about that...

We just got ours hooked up with no problem...however is was the limited package...only really basic stuff. They did make a mistake for about 2 weeks though and we had everything...that is until they figured it out and came back to 'fix' it. Oh well. They didn't make us pay for it, so it was fine with me to have extra for a bit.

SBC, which is now AT&T, is the company we HATE!!!! We have NEVER had good luck with them EVER! They jack things up all the time. So much so that it cost us a few hundred $$$ over the last few years. We still have them for the basic landline, but that is it.

I hope everything smooths out and gets started with no problem for you.

I'm not offended. I'm glad you got it worked out. My husband complains about the customer service reps all the time.

My Comcast story :hopmad...

A little over two years ago when we moved here I called Comcast immediately to get cable, phone and high speed internet. We live onsite with my Hubby's job. Comcast told me that they could not service us as a residence because the address was listed as a business. They wanted to put me through to the business services department. I told them I did not want to pay business rates for my residence. They said they would put in a ticket or something for it. I never heard back from them.

Just last month my Hubby informed me that the managers of the 2 Santa Rosa properties recently got comcast service in their apartments. So I called Comcast, did the same song and dance. The rep then said well we will have to send out a service tech to verify that it is in fact a residence. I gave her specific instructions to find our apartment so that he could verify that there was a residence on the premesis. The next thing I know my husband received a call stating that the tech had come out and determined that it was, in fact a business. He never even bothered coming to my apartment. He just drove onto the property, then left. Now they are totally refusing to service us as a residence. It is so frustrating!

Tina, that totally sucks! I'd call them back and ask to speak with the manager, supervisor, whoever you need to and give them a good "talking" to, if ya catch my drift....lol

I have personally had some good luck with one of the ladies that works in the office on LaBath. It is a lot harder to shut you down when you are standing there and they actually know what they are talking about too. Maybe if you brought in a utility bill or your driver's license along with the address of the SR manager's account they can verify all the info that way?
