Will you tan this summer?

View Full Version : Summer Tanning Poll Luckylove 03-11-2007, 03:38 PM Will you tan this summer? Sara 03-11-2007, 03:40 PM I never purposely tan, if I get some color when we are at the lake than I am OK with it (if I don't burn). Last year I used Jergins natural glow to get some color without the harm of the sun and I liked it. I will probably start that again soon. becky 03-11-2007, 03:43 PM hum if i get out in the sun....I'm really hoping we move this summer and one of the places i have been looking at has a community and family pool. and the of course there is the beach this summer. I just need to get in shape for summer and buy a new swim suit. Luckylove 03-11-2007, 03:46 PM I don't tan anymore due to sun damage. I am VERY white and burn easily. If it were safe I would love some color! Mystic tan looks cool but I wouldn't want to spend the money on it. becky 03-11-2007, 04:04 PM i was just think of how much my husband likes to tease me that my legs can blind him....i guess its the sun this summer for sure :lol karen-clark 03-11-2007, 04:37 PM I personally see super tan people and think skin cancer! I never purposely tan, I always wear sunblock. I did the Mystic Tan for our honeymoon and it does work and seems harmless for a once in a while thing. meeg124 03-11-2007, 05:47 PM I am the whitest of white but with freckles. I really don't tan well, I just burn. I figure that some day my freckles will merge and then I will be tan :) Kellie_MO5 03-11-2007, 05:51 PM I don't avoid the sun, but don't seek it out, either... i do like having some color, though :bag jellybeanmichelle 03-11-2007, 06:14 PM I have that farmer tan going. My arms are still tan from last year, but my legs are white now. I do tan easy. On a very hot day 10 minutes in the sun, I'm tan. Lots and lots of sunscreen! colleen&Kail 03-11-2007, 06:24 PM i am definetly going to lay out in the sun this summer since i missed out last summer when i was preggo! (no one wants to see a beached whale with a bikini on LOL) but i always wear sun block i usually tan really easily. Lynette 03-11-2007, 07:06 PM I am the whitest of white but with freckles. I really don't tan well, I just burn. I figure that some day my freckles will merge and then I will be tan :) :yeah That is also my dream :D I can be wearing sunscreen and just *look* at the sun and fry.... Kellie_MO5 03-11-2007, 07:43 PM see, I have a weird case of vitiligo ( think michael jackson)... It takes the pigment out of my skin, but then I repigment (lol... yeah odd) so I lather on the sunscreen when I have non pigmented spots, cus I totally burn then, but not so much when I don't, because I love being tan :thumb .... either way I look a little leopard-y.... depigmented I have white spots, when I repigment I get darker spots for a bit.... It embarrased me for a while at first (think long sleeves, pants, high necked shirts during summer) but I've learned to live with it, and not care what people think so much ;) Lorah 03-12-2007, 04:39 PM I LOVE THE SUN! I have to say that I do wear the sunblock now though. I actually got about 10 minutes in yesterday as Maverick took a nap! I felt a little guilty, but it only lasted a second...now I'm craving the warm sun and some time to lay quietly and do NOTHING! YEAH! justamom 03-13-2007, 12:58 AM I don't seek out the sun for tanning purposes, but I also don't like sunblock (it has carcinogens in it). We like a healthy amount of sun because it is just nice. The kids and I are starting to get our fair share of sun as they recently started baseball. I am fair skinned as is my daughter, if we aren't careful we burn easily. My son has a little more coloring, but still burns. I think it is a matter of moderation. Lynette 03-13-2007, 01:06 AM I don't seek out the sun for tanning purposes, but I also don't like sunblock (it has carcinogens in it). Yeah, but so does that sun :) I think the stats are that if you burn only once under the age of 18 to the point of blisters that your chances of skin cancer double? The two basic kinds of sunscreen on the general market are the kind that checmically protect you from the sun by soaking into your skin and the ones that just "float" on the surface forming a physical barrier. The second are the ones with zinc that are most often in baby sunscreen. I believe there are also more natural, holistic type ones but I can't remember how they are different?? becky 03-13-2007, 01:23 AM i didn't know that lynette. When i was really young we used to buy the Hawaiian tropic tanning oil...yeah i know that is really bad but i never burned, just got really dark. You wouldn't know it now by looking at me though. now when i go to the beach i use the baby sun block since that is all we have and i know i will burn if I'm in or near the ocean. Lynette 03-13-2007, 08:19 AM Oh yeah, the reflection off the water just makes it that much stronger. My stepmom and stepsister are Mediterreanean so they would lay out and just tan like crazy and I wanted to be able to also because they would always tell me how white I was. Well, once when I was Salina's age I figured I would sit on the top step of the pool to make it go faster because I was so white I needed to hurry things along and they totally went with it. I got sooooooo burned I had big blisters the size of dimes all over my back, got stick to my stomach from the radiation that night, and couldn't wear a bra for days. When it peeled it just came off in sheets. Now that I am older it is so obvious how wrong that was, I am Irish for goodness sake complete with pasty skin and freckles! becky 03-13-2007, 12:58 PM my mom wanted to get a tan before going on vacation so we went to the beach. It was totally overcast so we didn't think about using sunblock, there was no sun. She got so burnt on her legs that they swelled up, she need medication-a shot-of some kind but i forget for what and while we were on vacation she was peeling off in sheets too. colleen&Kail 03-13-2007, 07:42 PM i LOVE being outside in the sun, but i do tan when kail is napping! it makes me feel how do i put it "healthier"?..........i dont know exactly what i mean bu tit makes be be ina good mood.lol LMS 03-13-2007, 08:49 PM If I'm not pregnant, I'll deffinatly lay out in the sun. I used to do tanning beds, but don't have time to do that now (time w/o brendan that is) and the tanning creams do nothing for me. |
