I am getting my Gall-bladder removed next Friday. Has anyone out there had the lathroscopic surgery? I have the in-laws coming down for the weekend to help with my son, but I am curious to find out how the recovery was. How long were you out and what restrictions did you have? I am worried about getting my son in and out the crib, into the high chair, holding him, etc. They say it can be as little as 10 days, but I am debating about getting some more help that first week for my sake, but I am not sure how long I will be down!

I just had it done at the end of July. Not to scare you but it was painful! According to others around me who had also experienced it my recovery was pretty quick. I think I felt back to 100% after 2 weeks. You really should not lift your kiddo for at least the recommended 10 days, if not more. I definitely say get as much help as you can for as long as you can.

Let me know if you have any other questions :)

I had it done when Salina was less than a year old so laproscopy was new then but I think it is outpatient surgery now? I remember not being able to sit up from a prone position for a couple of days but I didn't need pain meds. You can always arrange more help but send them away early if you want.

Mine was an emergency procedure, so I was in the hospital for a couple of days and had the option for a third day for recovery but I went home the day after surgery.

Good plan though to schedule for help with the option to say you're okay enough to send them home.

It sounds like I am the minority but I had mine done on a Wednesday and was good to go by the next Monday. The only issue I had was closing our windows (they are hard to do) and that hurt for a while after. I had the laproscopy procedure too at Kaiser in Santa Rosa two years ago with Dr. Huang, I think that's how you spell his name. I think it would be better to be safe than sorry though and have the help for the full recovery time.

I had it in april 2011 with dr. Novich at san rafael kaiser.
Great experience. Outpatient procedure.
I only took the pain meds for 2 days because i felt they were making me feel loopy & worse. Once i did i felt much better.
Honestly, i was feeling pretty good within a few days. But it was hard to remember not topick up the 6mos old baby. Also i was nursing & had to pump & dump. My milk went down significantlt & it was a struggle for several mos getting my milk back up. We had a freezer full of breastmilk- thank goodness. We used it all.

I think that you should plan on being down for 2 weeks. The loved ones (or paid help) should wait on you diligently for the entire time.

Hope it all goes okay. Seriously take the downtime and the help. It may not come around again.
