kail always sucks on everything that is wet, baby wipes, wash clothes, plastic ice cubes etc......does this mean he is thirsty and not getting enough water? he pees plenty so im not worried that he is dehydrated or anything i give him water when he eats his solid food twice a day andhe usually drinks about 2 ounces.......jw if this is normal.

I have no idea if it's normal or not but I can tell you that Baby Eman doesn't do that...

I think it's just a matter of him exploring the world with his mouth-- he's at the right age to be doing that.

Maybe the coolness of things that are wet (and therefore colder than other things) feel good on his gums..???

Alaina is almost 2 1/2 and does the same thing although I personally think she is just a little weird ;) Just tonight I had a washcloth to clean her face and she took it from me, put it on her head and said, "HAT!" and then sucked on it and said, "Yummy!" She loves ice and water which is why we had to put baby locks on the toilets.

Kail is probably just tasting the world around him :)

i have to ask, what exactly was she doing with the toilet water that prompted the locks. :D

Checking to see which toys could float, washing her hands, splashing around, what everyone else should be using a readily accessible bowl of water for :) Never any drinking....that I saw anyways, blech!

I guess i'm lucky so far Myah hasn't done that though I wouldn't put it past her :lol Got love those exploring minds.

I read that babies/toddlers learn a lot about their world through 2 places on their bodies - their mouths and their butts! :) They mouth toys and sit on things!! It helps them learn about shapes and textures as well as spatial relationships, size, differences etc. Some kids do a lot of mouthing and some kids do a lot of sitting, but usually they do something along those lines! LOL The reason they do this is becuase they don't have the manual dexterity yet to really explore things proficiently with their fingers. :)
